Le Tigre Reunite

Kathleen Hanna has revealed that Le Tigre is back in the studio together and will release a new song sometime in October. She made the announcement during a conversation with Meredith Graves (of Perfect Pussy) for the Talkhouse Music Podcast, recorded live at the Sonos store in Manhattan. Hanna said: “Le Tigre just got back together in the studio–you have the scoop–for a special song that we are going to release hopefully, like, early-to-mid-October.” She continued, “I will not say what it’s about, but it’s been really fun working with them again.” Hanna clarified later in the conversation that the band was not going to release a new record or go on tour, but would release just the new track. Watch a portion of Hanna and Graves’ discussion below. (The Le Tigre conversation begins around 15:08.)

Le Tigre hasn’t released new material since 2004’s This Island. Since 2011, Hanna has been working with Bikini Kill’s Kathi Wilcox on a project called the Julie Ruin. Earlier this year, they released a new album called Hit Reset.

During the course of their conversation Hanna and Graves also discussed G.L.O.S.S.’ recent breakup and their rejection of Epitaph Records’ $50,00 record deal. Hanna said, “In terms of a major label offer, that’s not good enough. I mean, I would turn it down ’cause it’s not good enough. It’s not worth it to, like, compromise your identity.” Hanna added, “A major label offering $50,000, to me, is a total slap in the face. A major label has tons of money. They should be able to offer a really amazing band like G.L.O.S.S. a lot more than that because it costs a lot to make an album. It costs a lot of money to master it, and what the major label’s gonna want it to sound like means that they’re gonna have to go into a different studio; they’re gonna have to work with a producer. All of that money is just going to go into producing their record, and they’re each going to end up with, like, 500 bucks? That’s not cool.” The G.L.O.S.S. discussion begins around 34:27.
