Arcade Fire Perform at Glastonbury: Watch

Arcade Fire Perform at Glastonbury: Watch

This year's Glastonbury Festival takes place from June 27-29 on Worthy Farm in Pilton, England. Today, Arcade Fire headlined the first evening set. The band brought out a man in a mirror suit at the beginning of the performance, saying that playing at Glastonbury was "the most incredible" thing out of the many "unbelievable" things they've gotten to do. Check out the setlist and video from the performance below.

For "We Exist", the band brought out a team of male dancers wearing silver dresses and blonde wigs (a reference to the song's music video, which stars Andrew Garfield), and the infamous bobblehead masks made their dancing debut during a long intro for "Normal Person", which included snippets of songs by Oasis, Jay Z, and Pulp. Fireworks went off between "Keep The Car Running" and "No Cars Go". According to a report by NME, Lorde may have been scheduled to join the band as a guest performer, but pulled out in favor of "family" time, according to a statement on her Twitter.

M.I.A. Says BBC Banned Coverage of Her Glastonbury Set Because of Political T-shirts, Though Footage Was Ultimately Broadcast

M.I.A. Says BBC Banned Coverage of Her Glastonbury Set Because of Political T-shirts, Though Footage Was Ultimately Broadcast

Video portrait by Erik Sanchez

At her headlining set at Glastonbury tonight, M.I.A. made an announcement that her performance wasn't aired over BBC's live broadcasting services because of the political t-shirts worn by her dancers and members of her band that said "Stop Tamil Deportation".

Prior to the performance, she tweeted:

According to NME, M.I.A. later told the Glastonbury crowd:

"This is a political announcement, The BBC have banned M.I.A at Glastonbury. It's because of these T-shirts that say 'Stop Tamil Deportation'. But we don't give a fuck and you know why? We are going to do the best fucking show tonight and it ain't gonna be on TV. I'm here, you're here and that's all we fucking care about. Hashtag freedom motherfucker."

Despite M.I.A.'s commentary, however, BBC DJ Stuart Maconie later tweeted that no such block existed. Over twitter, he confirmed that M.I.A.'s set would be streaming via the BBC.

BBC's Glastonbury account later confirmed that M.I.A.'s set was in fact broadcast live:

No further comments have been made at this time.

SNL's Vanessa Bayer Offers "Sound Advice" To Tanlines, Interpol, and Others at Governors Ball

SNL's Vanessa Bayer continues to give "Sound Advice" in Above Average's online web series where she portrays the world's least-helpful publicist. Previously, Bayer has advised Drake ("Get on J-Date!") and TV on the Radio (who she accuses of being baristas,) among others.

Recently, Bayer made a trip to Governors Ball where she advised several musicians, including Tanlines ("Which one of you is going to take me on a date?") and Sam Fogarino of Interpol (whose band she insists is a police coverup). Watch the two-part video below.

Photo via GAB Archive

Gerry Goffin, a prolific songwriter who penned over fifty Top 40 hits-- including several with his former wife Carole King-- has died at his home in Los Angeles, the New York Times reports. He was 75.

Goffin was born in Brooklyn in 1939 and was working as an assistant chemist when he met King at Queens College. The two began writing songs together, and their first hit, 1961's "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" for the Shirelles, followed shortly thereafter.

Goffin and King were married in 1959, and continued to write hit singles, including "Pleasant Valley Sunday" for the Monkees, "Crying in the Rain" for the Everly Brothers, "Some Kind of Wonderful" for the Drifters, "Take Good Care of My Baby" for Bobby Vee, and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" for Aretha Franklin.

King and Goffin divorced in 1968, but Goffin kept writing hits, including "Savin' All My Love for You" for Whitney Houston, among others.

Goffin earned an Academy Award nomination alongside Michael Masser for the theme to the 1975 film "Mahogany", as recorded by Diana Ross. He also garnered a Golden Globe nomination for 1977's "So Sad the Song", from the film "Pipe Dreams". Eventually, Goffin's marriage and professional relationship with King was adapted into the Broadway musical Beautiful, which won two Tony Awards.

Goffin and King were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Michelle Goffin, and their five children.

Restaurants Debut Black Keys Burger and Jack White Gelato, Just Don't Order Them at The Same Time

Restaurants Debut Black Keys Burger and Jack White Gelato, Just Don't Order Them at The Same Time

Photo via Umami Burger

In the aftermath of a verbal feud between Jack White and members of the Black Keys, two different restaurants on opposite sides of the globe have named food items after the musicians-- and they kind of sound like they could go together in the same meal.

On July 1 the California-based Umami burger will debut The Black Keys' Akron Burger as part of an ongoing series of artist-themed burgers. The Akron burger is an all-beef patty topped with Velveeta fondue, "secret sauce", yellow mustard, chopped onions, and pickles. It will be available at all Umami outfits nationwide. $1 from each burger sold will benefit The Black Keys Alfred McMoore Memorial Endowment Fund, and fans will also be entered to win tickets to the Black Keys’ upcoming Los Angeles show, as well as other Black Keys swag, on the restaurant's website.

Gelato Messina in Australia, meanwhile, has christened a new flavor of gelato called Jack 'N White in honor of White's recent album Lazaretto , MTV reports. Jack 'N White includes Jack Daniels, caramelized white chocolate gelato, caramelized pecans, and caramelized fudge.

Unlike the Black Keys burger, it will only be available for the next week.

Dr. Dre Shares Release Date and Cast Photo for N.W.A Biopic, Straight Outta Compton

Universal's N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton , (named after the seminal rap group's 1988 debut) has officially been cast and is currently set to begin filming after a five year stasis, the Hollywood Reporter confirms. One of the reasons for the delay was the issue of getting Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Wright, to agree and sign off on the actors who would portray the legendary group.

This week, those actors were finally selected, and today Dr. Dre took to his twitter to share of photo of the cast (above) as well as to announce the film's release date: August 14, 2015.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., will portray his father, and classically-trained actor Marcus Callender will play Dre. Eazy-E will be portrayed by a New Orleans-based actor named Jason Mitchell.

As previously reported, F. Gary Gray will direct.

Straight Outta Compton will begin principle photography in two months.

Hit-Boy Shares Snippet of Frank Ocean-Featuring Nas Song Called "No Such Thing As White Jesus"

Hit-Boy Shares Snippet of Frank Ocean-Featuring Nas Song Called "No Such Thing As White Jesus"

Hit-Boy has shared a snippet of a long-lost Nas song called "No Such Thing As White Jesus", which features Frank Ocean singing the line, "Put a crown on your head and remove the chains". The producer shared the clip via his Instagram, with the caption, "Found these files finally. For real this time. Frank ocean whattup." No word yet on when the finished song is coming out, but check out the teaser below.

According to MTV, "No Such Thing as White Jesus" was originally supposed to be on Nas’ Life Is Good LP-- and according to the New York Times , it was "unfortunately lost to a technological mishap". (Hurray for backup systems!) According to the report, the song contains the lines, "Whatever you do, young king, don’t wind up dead/ Young queen, cross your legs/ Put a crown on your head and remove the chains/ ’Cause even diamond chains are for slaves/ Don’t set foot in no penitentiary/ And don’t taste the poison/ Don’t you bail on your families".

In her recent cover story for Billboard, Iggy Azalea expressed some strong opinions about Lorde's participation in the all-girl Nirvana tribute held during April's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction, MTV reports. Speaking candidly about Lorde standing in for the late Kurt Cobain (singing a stripped-down cover of "All Apologies",) Azalea said:

“Nothing against her, but I think when you’re doing a tribute to someone that’s dead, generally it should be the person’s peer,” she told Billboard. “Lorde is not Kurt Cobain’s peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don’t think it’s appropriate.”

Lorde has not commented at this time.

Black Flag to Play Kids Show in Chicago

Black Flag to Play Kids Show in Chicago

Greg Ginn's recent incarnation of Black Flag has made some questionable decisions over the past year or so–the band has admitted as much—but here's one that seems nice. On June 17, Ginn, new vocalist Mike Vallely, and the band will play Reggies Chicago, as part of their "Victimology Tour". Before that, at 6 p.m., they'll do a special free all-ages show "for the kids" at the same venue.

Per the press release: "Meet Greg Ginn and the other members of Black Flag as they play stripped down Black Flag songs for the kids!" Here's to hoping for a very carefully assembled playlist free of depression, self-destruction, and nervous breakdowns.
