Andrew W.K. Organizes His Own Political Party

Andrew W.K. has launched what appears to be a new political party, called (of course) "The Party Party." Today, the musician rolled out a new website and social media accounts for the organization, which he's framing as "an all-inclusive alternative to the traditional two party model." He's also shared a short promotional video detailing his goals of unity and liberation from a two-party political system. Watch it below. In the clip, W.K. claims to have filed the "relevant paperwork with the Secretary of State." The website further explains that "once we [the Party Party] have the required signatures, we can begin our formal journey into traditional politics." Potential supporters are invited to sign the petition on the Party Party website. (As NPR points out, it's unclear whether the Party Party is an elaborate prank or a legitimate political organization.)

This isn't Andrew W.K's first foray into the political arena. In 2012, the U.S. Department of State invited the musician to take a trip to Bahrain as a cultural ambassador. The agency subsequently cancelled the visit; W.K. claimed they pulled the plug just hours after he recieved his itinerary. In spite of this, he vowed to "continue partying" and "work everyday to unite our human race through the power of positive partying."

Here's the ostensible Party Party platform, as outlined on its website:

The Party Party is simple in its mission: To free the American people from the dysfunction that is our two party system. At best, bi-partisan politics has created an insurmountable divide that has separated the people into two categories of Democrat and Republican. The Party Party aims to provide an alternative to the divisive labeling of our current system. Most people have become too caught up in the bickering of our news cycles to realize that we ultimately desire the exact same things: reliable access to education, healthcare, and a sense of social equality. If enough people are willing to liberate themselves from choosing left or right, a third voice can emerge with a much more powerful message. A message that will open the eyes of our representatives and help them see that this “Us versus Them” mentality has kept our country from providing its people with a REAL sense of freedom. If we open our hearts and approach the problems we face with an open mind, real change can be achieved. We hope you will join us on this journey.
