Rapper Accuses Lil Yachty of Stealing New Song “Peek A Boo”

Rapper Accuses Lil Yachty of Stealing New Song “Peek A Boo”

Rapper Memphis Ash has claimed one of Lil Yachty’s new songs off Teenage Emotions isn’t an original. He and his legal team believe “Peek A Boo,” featuring Migos, lifts some verses and the hook from Memphis’ song “Pikachu.” That track came out last year. Listen to both below. Memphis’ lawyer Ben McLane originally served Yachty with a cease and desist, granting him 10 days to deliver any royalties from the song to Memphis, but he has not complied, according to TMZ. “I think it's pretty obvious Yachty didn't rip off this song,” a representative for Yachty told Pitchfork. “Memphis Ash does not own the rights to the phrase ‘peek a boo.’ It's public domain!” Memphis’ lawyer plans to pursue the case, and wants “Peek A Boo” removed from all streaming services.

Dirt from Brian Wilson’s Home Used to Create New Album

Dirt from Brian Wilson’s Home Used to Create New Album

The dirt from Brian Wilson’s childhood home has been turned into a series of collectible LPs. In 2016, artist Jeff Hassay visited the site where Wilson’s house used to stand—before it was torn down years earlier—and made an 18-minute field recording. With that audio, he created Beach Boys House: Dirt Sounds (out June 6 via Small World)Each record was created by “pouring clear resin and dirt into silicone molds,” and contains soil from the home’s location. There are only 100 available albums, and they cost $100, according to the product description. Watch the making-of video below.

Meanwhile, Brian Wilson recently extended his tour celebrating the 50th anniversary of the classic Beach Boys album, Pet Sounds. He will now be on the road through October. Read Pitchfork’s feature, “The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds Celebrates its 50th Anniversary: Artists Pay Tribute to the Eternal Teenage Symphony.”

Eminem’s “Stan” Added to the Oxford English Dictionary

Eminem’s “Stan” Added to the Oxford English Dictionary

Eminem’s lingo has officially been added to the Oxford English Dictionary. The tome now includes the word “stan” from Eminem’s song by the same name, off his 2000 album, The Marshall Mathers LP. The OED defines “stan” as “an overzealous or obsessive fan of a particular celebrity.” In the track, Eminem delivered the first three verses from the title character’s point of view. Stan, an obsessive Slim Shady fan, grew increasingly upset that Slim never responded to his letters, and ended up killing his pregnant girlfriend and himself. The song inspired a new word used heavily on social media to describe a super fan who goes too far in their appreciation.

Eminem recently celebrated the 15th anniversary of The Eminem Show with special bundles featuring a cassette of the album, t-shirts, and autographed posters.

Jack White and Elton John Team for New Song “Two Fingers of Whiskey”: Watch

Jack White and Elton John Team for New Song “Two Fingers of Whiskey”: Watch

Jack White and Elton John have teamed up for a new blues song called “Two Fingers of Whiskey.” The collaboration was captured in White’s upcoming film The American Epic Sessions, which showcases contemporary artists replicating early recording processes. In the scene, John is asked to improvise a new song from lyrics that his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin handed him. John leads on piano, White accompanies on guitar, and their performance is recorded straight to wax. Watch it happen below. The American Epic Sessions premieres June 6 on PBS. The film’s soundtrack arrives on CD and digital download on June 9 via Columbia. It gets a vinyl release from White’s Third Man on June 16.

Nas and White previously shared a clip of their session covering the Memphis Jug Band’s “On the Road Again.” Other artists who are set to appear in The American Epic Sessions include Beck, Steve Martin, Alabama Shakes, the late Merle Haggard, and more. The forthcoming film is the follow-up to American Epic, a three-part documentary series centered around early American recording technology. Both projects are executive produced by White, T-Bone Burnett, and Robert Redford; they’re directed and produced by Bernard MacMahon, Allison McGourty, and Duke Erikson.

John shared his latest studio album Wonderful Crazy Night last year. White’s most recent solo album is 2014’s Lazaretto. He recently announced a We’re Going to Be Friends children’s book, based on the White Stripes song of the same name.

Prophets of Rage Share Michael Moore-Directed “Unfuck the World” Video: Watch

Prophets of Rage—the supergroup featuring members of Rage Against the Machine, Public Enemy, and Cypress Hill—have officially released their new single “Unfuck the World.” (They debuted the track at a recent show in Chile.) As they hinted, the video is directed by the Oscar-winning documentarian Michael Moore. The clip, as you might imagine, is full of political imagery. Trump appears plenty of times, as do clips of protests, that infamous Pepsi ad, meat grinders, the Kardashians, drone strikes, Flint’s water plant, and more. There are also clips from Prophets’ live shows. Watch it below.

“I am thrilled to once again be working with my old friends and comrades in the struggle for a just world,” Moore said in a statement. “Prophets Of Rage is the right band, saying the right shit, at this very critical moment. This music video is our collective battle cry against those who seek to harm the innocent and the powerless. I am proud to have directed this video and I ask all who see it do their part to unfuck this world. ALL HANDS ON DECK!”

Arcade Fire Launch Mysterious “Live From Death Valley” Stream

Arcade Fire Launch Mysterious “Live From Death Valley” Stream

Yesterday, Arcade Fire released new single “Everything Now” as part of a flurry of cryptic activity, stoking speculation about an incoming LP. Now, something is happening on their website. The band tweeted a link this morning to arcadefire.com, which redirects to live.everythingnow.com. The stream shows an apparently pitch-black backdrop, a neon display reading “Everything Now” (which is now showing in various languages), an icon in the top-left corner reading “Live” (or, sometimes, “Lie”), and a rotating “EN” (“Everything Now”) logo, which is always reversed. Some fans, though, have reported seeing the stream in daytime, apparently from Death Valley, California—as per the tweet below. See for yourself here, and listen to a recording of “Everything Now” below.

Speculation about new Arcade Fire activity kicked into gear yesterday when the band teased something called “Infinite Content.” The “Everything Now” release followed, via a 12” single sold at Primavera Sound. A Twitter account designed to like a Russian spambot also appeared to be leaking information. It was announced later yesterday that the band had signed to Columbia.
