YG has shared a new DJ Mustard-produced song, “Pop It, Shake It.” Listen to the track below. The rapper has also announced the title of his next studio album: it’s called Just Re’d Up 3: Know Your Worth, and will be the follow-up to the 2011 and 2013 mixtapes of the same series. The new album was executive produced by DJ Mustard. He and YG last came together on YG’s EP Red Friday, released at the end of last year, further cementing the end of a dry spell that came about as the result of personal differences between the two. (DJ Mustard was noticeably absent from YG’s last studio album, Still Brazy. YG did feature on Mustard’s studio album, Cold Summer). YG most recently joined 21 Savage and Migos on Mike WiLL Made-It’s “Gucci On My.”
Cashmere Cat has shared a new song called “9 (After Coachella),” featuring MØand SOPHIE. Stream the track below, and watch its lyric video (which features some adorable French bulldogs). Over the past year, Cashmere Cat has shared the songs “Wild Love” featuring the Weeknd and Francis and the Lights, “Trust Nobody” with Selena Gomez and Tory Lanez, “Throw Myself a Party,” featuring 2 Chainz and Tory Lanez, and most recently, “Love Incredible” with Camila Cabello (formerly of Fifth Harmony). His debut solo album, Wild Love, is due out later this year via Mad Love/Interscope. Cashmere Cat is currently on tour; find his itinerary here.
Democratic Texas congressman Beto O’Rourke is officially running for Ted Cruz’s Senate seat, as Spin points out. In the 1990s, O’Rourke was a singer and guitarist in the band Foss, which included Cedric Bixler-Zavala (At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta) on vocals and drums. “I wasn’t very good at it,” O’Rourke told the Washington Post earlier this year, explaining that his father didn’t fully back his musical aspirations either. “He won’t say it, but the expectation is: We didn’t take out loans for you to go to Columbia and then [play] in a punk band your whole life.”
O’Rourke, an underdog in the Senate race, is the “first prominent Democrat” to challenge Cruz for the Senate seat, according to the AP. In his campaign launch announcement earlier today, he promised to resist Donald Trump, saying he’d “fight when necessary against a president who is focused on building walls, or conducting military immigrant round-ups.”
Chance the Rapper held a press conference today at Chicago’s Paul Robeson High School. He was scheduled to “make a major announcement about his efforts to support Chicago Public Schools,” which include his $1 million donation to CPS (announced at a previous press conference from the city’s Westcott Elementary School). In his new speech, Chance revealed that he has raised $2.2 million for CPS since the first press conference. Among those who donated are the Chicago Bulls (who matched Chance’s $1 million), Scooter Braun (manager of Kanye West, Justin Bieber, and others), and Hannibal Buress.
He also announced the New Chance Arts and Literature Fund, which he said “will bring arts programs and materials to schools.” He added that it will “begin investing dollars and material resources into Chicago Public Schools beginning this fall for the 2017-2018 school year.” Chance said that it is a collaboration with the Children’s First Fund and in partnership with Ingenuity.
Taking questions from the press, Chance revealed that he has not spoken with Illinois governor Bruce Rauner since the announcement of his initial $1 million donation. The two had a meeting together at the beginning of March.
Chance the Rapper has announced his second press conference of the month. At the first, which took place at Chicago’s Westcott Elementary School, he announced a $1 million donation to Chicago Public Schools—an act that earned praise from CPS students, as well as Michelle Obama. Now, at 2:30 p.m. Central today, Chance “will make a major announcement about his efforts to support Chicago Public Schools,” according to a press release. The press conference will take place at the city’s Paul Robeson High School, and streamed live on his Instagram.
Since the first press conference, Chance has issued a call for an intern. Earlier this week, he tweeted, “I’m looking for an intern, someone with experience in putting together decks and writing proposals,” later clarifying, “I want intern résumés formatted as creative decks, pitches or proposals.” See those tweets below.
Chance’s initial press conference followed his meeting with Illinois governor Bruce Rauner. Speaking with the press immediately afterward, he said Gov. Rauner “gave [him] a lot of vague answers, so we’ll see what happens.” At the Westcott press conference he shouted, “Gov. Rauner, do your job!”
Dr. Dre has been named to the Board of Directors of a group vying to bring the 2024 Summer Olympics to Los Angeles, as Spin points out. The group, called LA 2024, is led by Casey Wasserman and includes Magic Johnson, Disney CEO Bob Iger, opera superstar Plácido Domingo, record executive David Geffen, Jason Collins (the first publicly gay NBA player), Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, and many others on the Board of Directors. L.A. is up against Paris in its bid for the 2024 games. The International Olympic Committee will elect the host city on September 13 in Lima, Peru. The Olympics have not been in the United States since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Father John Misty has shared a “radio edit” of “Leaving LA,” a 13-minute song from his upcoming album Pure Comedy (out April 7 via Sub Pop/Bella Union). The new version is under three minutes and consists of just the song’s first and final verses, cutting out some of its more topical lyrics (such as “Oh great, that’s just what we all need/Another white guy in 2017 who takes himself so goddamn seriously.”) Listen to “Leaving LA (Radio Edit)” below. Josh Tillman has previously shared several songs from the album, including “Ballad of the Dying Man,” “Two Wildly Different Perspectives,” “Total Entertainment Forever,” and “Pure Comedy.”
Sufjan Stevens has announced a new audiovisual live album, Carrie & Lowell Live, due out April 28 on Asthmatic Kitty. It was recorded on November 9, 2015 at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center in South Carolina, on Sufjan's tour in support of his last album, Carrie & Lowell. As Asthmatic Kitty points out, today, March 31, is the birthday of the titular Lowell Brams, who is Sufjan's stepfather and co-founder of the label. It is also the two-year anniversary of the album's release. The album will be released in both audio and video forms, with the video available on YouTube and Vimeo. The tracklist, which can be found below, features Sufjan and Gallant's cover of Drake's "Hotline Bling."
Tyvek drummer Matt Z is the chef at El Club, an all-ages arts venue in Detroit. He frequently designs new pizzas for charity in collaboration with other Michigan artists, and has now tapped Danny Brown to come up with some delicious new pies to benefit InsideOut Detroit, a non-profit organization focused on exposing and teaching poetry and creative writing to children. “Danny threw out liver & gizzards as meat options to create.... Pepe Z (Matt Z) tried to put the gizzards on the pie, but the pairing was not compatible,” the venue told Pitchfork in an email. In the end, Danny came up with two pizzas: a “mystery meat” pie with liver and onions, and an “Easter Bunny” pizza with chocolate peanut butter and jelly beans. You can try them at El Club throughout the month of April—all proceeds go to InsideOut Detroit. Check out the pies above.
With so much good music being released all the time, it can be hard to determine what to listen to first. Every week, Pitchfork offers a run-down of significant new releases available on streaming services. This week’s batch includes albums from Bob Dylan, Mastodon, Pharmakon, Freddie Gibbs, Goldfrapp, Jamiroquai, Julia Holter, and Wire.
Bob Dylan’s new triple album takes on a slew of American standards. Artists covered by the Nobel Prize winner include Frank Sinatra (“I Could Have Told You”), Charles Strouse and Lee Adams (“Once Upon a Time”), Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler (“Stormy Weather”), Harold Hupfield (“As Time Goes By”), and Cy Coleman and Carolyn Leigh (“The Best Is Yet to Come”).
Margaret Chardiet’s new Pharmakon album explores “the moments when our mind can come outside of and transcend our bodies.” Contact is structured around the four stages of trance: preparation, onset, climax, and resolution. It’s led by the song “Transmission”—read Pitchfork’s review of the track.
UK duo Goldfrapp are back with their first album since 2013’s Tales of Us. The album was produced with John Congleton in Dallas and the Haxan Cloak in London. Check out their video for “Anymore.”
Jamiroquai’s Automaton is their first new album in seven years, following Rock Dust Light Star. Jay Kay co-produced the record with keyboardist Matt Johnson. Watch the music video for the title track.
After releasing Nocturnal Koreans last year, Wire return with a new album called Silver/Lead. It’s their 15th studio album, and it’s out on the 40th anniversary of the band’s first performance. Read Pitchfork’s “5-10-15-20” interview with Wire’s Colin Newman.
Portishead’s Geoff Barrow and composer Ben Salisbury have teamed up to soundtrack Free Fire, director Ben Wheatley’s new thriller about a shootout in ’70s Boston. The soundtrack, which also features a handful of songs by John Denver, the Real Kids, and Creedence Clearwater Revival, is out today via Invada/Lakeshore. Listen below. Barrow and Salisbury previously collaborated on the soundtrack for Alex Garland’s sci-fi film Ex Machina, for which they won an Ivor Novello Award, as well as Garland’s follow-up, Annihilation, and an episode of “Black Mirror.”
Broken Social Scene were the musical guests on last night’s episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” They performed their new song “Halfway Home” with guests Emily Haines and James Shaw of Metric, as well as Amy Millan and Evan Cranley of You Are Stars. Check it out below. “Halfway Home” is the first offering from Broken Social Scene’s forthcoming new album, which will be their first LP since 2010’s Forgiveness Rock Record. In a recent interview, Kevin Drew said the album is finished and should be out before the autumn. Last summer, Feist revealed that she’s on the record. Broken Social Scene head out on tour in May.
Sampha has shared Process, a 36-minute film that serves as a companion piece to his album of the same name, via Apple Music. It was directed by Khalil Joseph, best known for his work on Beyoncé’s Lemonadefilm. The new film is a series of vignettes featuring “ghostly spiritual surfer guides, crop circle dance formations, time altering narrative leaps,” and performances by Sampha. Much of Process (both the film and the album) are dedicated to Sampha’s mother, who died of cancer in September 2015. Watch it here.
The film will also broadcast at installations at the following addresses:

Brookyln: 55 Wythe Avenue, 101 Bedford Avenue, and 106 North 6th Street
London: 58 Great Eastern Street and 10 Dray Walk

Amber Coffman has shared a new solo song. Listen to “No Coffee” below. It’s taken from her forthcoming debut solo album, City of No Reply, which arrives later this year via Columbia. So far, she’s shared one other song, “All to Myself.” Coffman recently opened up about her departure from Dirty Projectors, as well as the end of her relationship with that band’s frontman (and now sole member), Dave Longstreth. “I consider it a loss to no longer be involved with Dirty Projectors, but ultimately walking away was the only healthy choice for me,” she said. “I’m really proud of the album I made and my hope is that people will listen to it on its own terms. I’ve waited a long time to share it and I’m looking forward to it.”
Cam’ron has shared the music video for his Vanessa Carlton-sampling song, “10,000 Miles.” Watch it below. In the new short film, Cam’ron gets caught cheating on his girlfriend, and when she leaves him, he can’t stop remembering their time together. In the end, they reconcile and he proposes. “10,000 Miles” is the first single off Cam’ron’s upcoming mixtape The Program, which is due this summer. This is just the latest in a string of uncharacteristic moves for Killa Cam. Earlier this month, the longtime opponent of snitching openly endorsed the practice where Trump is concerned in a segment on “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah.” Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” was released in 2001.
Kendrick Lamar has shared a new music video for a brand new song, “Humble.” The clip was directed by Dave Meyers & the Little Homies. (The Little Homies are the duo of Kendrick himself and TDE president Dave Free. They’ve directed past videos for the label’s signees.) The new song was produced by Mike WiLL Made-It. “Humble” follows Kendrick’s “The Heart Part 4,” released last week. His last studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly, was released in 2015. (Last year, he released the compilation untitled unmastered.) Watch the new video below.
Last week, Gorillaz marked their return by releasing fournewsongs from their upcoming album Humanz. The group also shared the music video for “Saturnz Barz,” their new track with Popcaan. In addition to the standard visual, the clip was made available in 360-degree virtual reality. The “Saturnz Barz (Spirit House)” 360 clip has now set a record for the highest debut of a VR video in YouTube history, Billboardreports. The six-minute video—which involves a haunted house, a singing pizza, and a whole lot of chaos in outer space—was viewed more than three million times within its first 48 hours; its plays now exceed five million. The previous 48-hour record was held by Russian band УСПЕШНАЯ ГРУППА, who had 1.3 million views for their “СТРАННЫЙ” video, according to a press release. Revisit Gorillaz’s 360 video below.
It’s official: The music industry has regained a bit of its health, and that’s largely thanks to streaming. The RIAA announced today that retail revenue from recorded music in the United States grew to $7.7 billion last year, the highest sales level since 2009, The New York Times reports. That’s an increase of 11.4 percent, the biggest percentage gain since 1998. The RIAA said the growth was mainly driven by the rise of paid subscription streaming services such as Apple Music, Tidal, and the paid version of Spotify. Revenues from paid subscription services in America more than doubled, to $2.5 billion. Overall, paid and free streaming generated $3.9 billion in revenues, the first time it has made up more than half of the industry total. However, industry revenues were still only about half of their 1999 peak.
Cary Sherman, the president of the RIAA, which represents major labels, said in an online commentary, “As excited as we are about our growth in 2016, our recovery is fragile and fraught with risk.”
Beyond streaming, the industry’s biggest-selling formats continued to show a decline. Only 99.4 million full-length CDs were sold last year, and their revenues fell 21 percent to $1.2 billion, according to the RIAA. As The New York Timesreports, the last time fewer than 100 million CDs were sold was in 1986. Downloads slid 22 percent in 2016 to $1.8 billion.
Sales of vinyl albums, meanwhile, were up 4 percent to $430 million and made up their biggest share of total physical sales since 1985, at 26 percent.
As previously reported by Nielsen, streaming became the leading mode of music consumption in America last year. Overall on-demand audio streams leaped 76 percent to surpass 251 billion in 2016, according to Nielsen. Separately, BuzzAngle Music reported there were more streams on an average day in 2016 than song downloads for the entire year. According to BuzzAngle, Drake was the most-streamed artist of 2016 by a wide margin.
A Perfect Circle—the supergroup of Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan, Billy Howerdel, Matt McJunkins, Jeff Friedl, and ex-Smashing Pumpkins member James Iha—have signed a worldwide record deal with BMG. In a press release, Howerdel exclaimed, “We just signed a new record deal with BMG! Looking forward to sharing new music with you soon. New APC-2017!” Jon Cohen (Executive Vice President of Recorded Music at BMG) added, “We’re thrilled to welcome A Perfect Circle to BMG and excited to present their highly-anticipated new music to the world.” The press release also confirmed that the band are at work in the studio on their new record—their first since 2004’s eMOTIVe.
Next week, A Perfect Circle embark on their first North American tour since 2011. Upon the tour’s announcement in January, Howerdel said, “Getting back to writing music with A Perfect Circle is a great way to start the new year.” Check out the band’s upcoming shows below.

Mac DeMarco has shared the video for the title track from his upcoming album This Old Dog. The self-directed clip follows several people wearing dog masks around Los Angeles. In a press release, DeMarco explained that the video depicts “A devoted dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Reincarnated as multiple canines over the course of five decades, the lovable pooch develops an unbreakable bond with a kindred spirit named Ethan. As the boy grows older and comes to a crossroad, the dog once again comes back into his life to remind him of his true self.” However, you'd be hard pressed to actually find all that in the video itself. Watch it below.
Mac has also extended his tour in support of This Old Dog; find his latest itinerary below. The albumis out May 5 via Captured Tracks. In related news, DeMarco recently performed “This Old Dog” in a dog grooming parlor.

Watch our 2013 interview with the Black Keys on Pitchfork.tv:
Forest Swords, aka producer Matthew Barnes, is back with his first studio album since 2013’s Engravings. Compassion, which follows his dance score Shrine, is out May 5 on Ninja Tune. As well as “The Highest Flood,” released earlier this month, the record is preceded by “Arms Out,” which has a new, ritualistic video directed by Barnes and Sam Wiehl. Watch it below, and scroll down to see the album art and tracklist. The record “will be followed by a set of multidisciplinary projects expanding the themes and concepts across wider disciplines,” according to a press release.
“Like many, with all that’s been going on since I started making the record, I’ve struggled to see any kind of light at the end of the tunnel,” Barnes said in the press release. “So I realised there’s some sort of power in trying to create our own instead.” He added: “I’m increasingly interested in the effects the web and media has on the way we think it's acceptable to communicate with each other day-to-day, and that maybe our current language structures aren’t doing justice to how complex our emotions and identities are. The idea of flexible future languages, that bends to our needs quicker, excites me.”
This morning, Glastonbury announced a host of new artists for its 2017 festival. Joining headliners Radiohead, Foo Fighters, and Ed Sheeran, are Lorde, Solange, Father John Misty, Katy Perry, the xx, Run the Jewels, the National, Stormzy, the Avalanches, alt-J, Future Islands, and many more. See the latest poster, designed by Radiohead artist Stanley Donwood, below. The Worthy Farm fest runs June 21-25; expect plenty more lineup additions before then.
Handwritten lyrics to an unpublished Bob Dylan song from 1961 will be auctioned off this week, Rolling Stone reports. The song, which is about Wisconsin, will be sold on March 30. Bidding will open at $30,000. According to the report, Dylan wrote the song when he was 20 just after he’d moved to New York City and signed with Columbia Records. It followed an unfruitful period working around Madison in 1960 after Dylan dropped out of the University of Minnesota. Dylan reportedly gave the lyric sheet to his former roommate Peter Crago. The winning bid comes with a certificate of authenticity. Earlier today, it was reported that Dylan will finally accept his Nobel Prize for Literature with the condition that he can deliver a taped Nobel lecture.
Kirin J Callinan has shared a silly new mockumentary called “Off the Record.” The “Behind the Music”-style clip features several big name guests, including Mac DeMarco, Jack Black, Mark Ronson, Tame Impala’s Jay Watson, Weyes Blood, Ladyhawke, and Sebastien Teller. They all humorously reflect on Callinan’s career and influence. Along the way, Callinan dances on a beach and DeMarco gets wistful to the point of tears. Watch it all go down below. Callinan’s debut album Embracism came out in 2013.
Before it appeared at the end of last year’s A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead’s “True Love Waits” was a rarity—attempted in the studio, and released officially only on their 2001 live album I Might Be Wrong. The band’s longtime producer Nigel Godrich has now shared production notes from an early attempt at recording the song, which he dates back to the OK Computer era (almost 20 years before the song’s official studio release). Along with a sheet of paper featuring some of the song’s lyrics, Godrich tweeted, “A page from my notebook from recording OKC... old school pre computer editing.... this song didn’t make it anyway ;).” See his post below.
Check out Pitchfork’s new coverage of OK Computerfor its 20th anniversary.

The producers of “Serial” and “This American Life” have a new true crime podcast called “S-Town” that launched yesterday. Set in Woodstock, Alabama, “S-Town” (aka “Shittown”) investigates local resident John B. McLemore's claims that a member of a well-to-do local family got away with murder. Nick Thorburn (Islands/The Unicorns) composed “Serial”’s score, and “S-Town” also features original music, as Stereogum points out. Electronic artist and producer Helado Negro, “This American Life” contributing music producer and drummer for Gym Class Heroes Matt McGinley, and composer and Spacebomb co-owner Trey Pollard (who has worked with Helado Negro, Matthew E. White, Foxygen, and the Waterboys) soundtrack the podcast’s seven episodes. Composer Daniel Hart (who has collaborated with St. Vincent, the Polyphonic Spree, and Broken Social Scene) not only wrote the podcast’s theme, but released an entire album of music for the series. The Zombies’ “A Rose for Emily,” off their 1968 LP Odessey and Oracle, ends each episode. The song retells William Faulkner’s Southern gothic short story of the same name.
All “S-Town” episodes are now available to stream.

Jazz saxophonist Arthur Blythe has died, according to WBGO and his Facebook. He was 76 years old. In recent years, Blythe reportedly struggled with Parkinson’s disease. Blythe was born in Los Angeles. Occasionally credited as “Black Arthur Blythe,” his first recording was on the Horace Tapscott Quintet’s 1969 album The Giant Is Awakened. The avant-garde alto saxophonist began a long recording career as a bandleader starting with 1977’s The Grip. In 1979, he signed to Columbia and released two albums that same year: In the Tradition and Lenox Avenue Breakdown. In the Tradition inspired an Amiri Baraka poem of the same name, while Lenox Avenue Breakdown was praised by The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings as “one of the masterpieces of modern jazz.” Blythe also recorded with Gil Evans, Steve Reid, McCoy Tyner, Mose Allison, and others. His last album was 2003’s Exhale.

Revisit Pitchfork’s rundown of the 10 Best Songs of the ’80s:
Run the Jewels were guests on tonight’s episode of Desus Nice and the Kid Mero’s Viceland show “Desus & Mero.” After discussing the first Run the Jewels tour and Mike’s early work with OutKast, they laughed about some failed crowd surfing attempts at recent Run the Jewels shows. “Last night they picked up a little fat dude and crowd surfed him,” Mike said before recounting how long the guy stayed in the air. Another anecdote was about El-P’s fiancé, who “ate shit” at Terminal 5. “It was terrible because I love her and wanted to console her, but it was so fucking funny,” El-P said. Watch their appearance below. The show previously featured Ezra Koenig, who made jokes about a Trick Daddy video.
Amber Coffman is gearing up to release City of No Reply, her first solo album, and recently shared the single “All to Myself.” The new music came around the same time as Dave Longstreth’s new Dirty Projectors music, which did not feature Coffman. Songs from Dirty Projectors seemed to reference Longstreth and Coffman’s breakup. Now, Coffman has shared a statement detailing her departure from Dirty Projectors. Find it below. She confirms that she broke up with Longstreth in 2012, says that a re-kindled friendship led to the two collaborating on her new album, reveals that their friendship then took “an unfortunate downturn,” and says that she learned about the new Dirty Projectors music last September (which is when Longstreth publicly shared “Keep Your Name”).
Dave and I indeed broke up in the summer of 2012, after a 6 year relationship. After a long tumultuous period, we managed to patch things up enough to leave the future open, and in 2014 we gave working together on my music a test run. Eventually I brought him on in a greater capacity as a producer, he moved to LA and we recorded my album at his newly built studio in 2015. All went considerably well, but things took an unfortunate downturn around the completion of my record, at which time we stopped speaking.
It was never my intention or wish to leave the band or end my friendship with Dave. It was a surprise to me to learn last September about his album plans, the content, timing, use of the band name, etc… I consider it a loss to no longer be involved with Dirty Projectors, but ultimately walking away was the only healthy choice for me.
I’m really proud of the album I made and my hope is that people will listen to it on its own terms. I’ve waited a long time to share it and I’m looking forward to it.
Rihanna stars as Marion Crane in “Bates Motel,” the A&E series that serves as a prequel the Alfred Hitchcock classic Psycho. In the film, Crane is famously murdered in the shower. On last night’s episode, Rihanna got her own shower scene, but it didn’t mirror what happened in the original film. (Spoilers ahead, if you care about that sort of thing.) As the music got more tense and the camera zoomed in on the shower curtain, Rihanna pulled back the curtain, said “screw this shit,” and walked away without getting stabbed. Find the scene below via MTV News. Last week, footage of Rihanna reacting to her first appearance on the show emerged.
Wavves were guests on “Dump’d,” a fake game show from Super Deluxe where all kinds of gross stuff gets dumped on contestants who can’t solve a riddle. As members of the band answer incorrectly, they’re covered in several substances. At various points, the band are informed that they’re being drenched with chicken blood, merlot, warm bile, sewage, Coke Zero, hedgehog mucus, diarrhea, and more. Watch it go down below, if you dare.
On May 19, Wavves will release a new album called You’re Welcome. The follow-up to last year’s V, will be released via Nathan Williams’ Ghost Ramp label. It features three previously shared songs: “Daisy,” “Animal,” and the title track. Following a stint supporting Blink-182 in April, they’ll set out on the road on their own through June; find the full itinerary here.
A new trailer has been released for a forthcoming documentary about John Coltrane, titled Chasing Trane: The John Coltrane Story. Watch it below via Vanity Fair. Combining archival footage, photographs and performances, the film tells the story of the jazz musician's short but powerful life. Since Coltrane gave minimal radio interviews and never gave a television interview before he died at age 40, Denzel Washington narrates his words. “In many of his roles Denzel radiates an exceptional quiet strength,” said director-writer John Scheinfeld in a statement. "Coltrane, many of his friends told me, embodied a similar strength.”
The documentary also features Common, Kamasi Washington, Carlos Santana, Wynton Marsalis, Bill Clinton, Sonny Rollins, Dr. Cornel West, and more, who discuss Coltrane's significance and impact. His family and the labels that own his catalogue all lent their support to the film's production.
Chasing Trane will be screening at the IFC Theater in New York City beginning April 14 with a wider release to follow.
Shot! The Psycho-Spiritual Mantra of Rock is a forthcoming documentary on music photographer Mick Rock, out April 7 in theaters and on Amazon/iTunes. The film, which premiered at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival, features a slew of artists, including Father John Misty and Karen O. One cameo is particularly special: In a brief sequence to illustrate an acid flashback, Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox appears as Jesus Christ, hanging from a cross wearing a crown of thorns and not much else. Check out a still from that segment below.
Elsewhere in the film, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe plays the R&B singer Sir Mack Rice, whom Rock shot when under the influence of cocaine. Shot! also features never-before-seen footage of Bowie backstage during the Ziggy Stardust years and footage of Syd Barrett during an acid trip. Find the trailer for the new film below, and see some of that aforementioned Bowie footage below as well.
