Last night in Flint, Michigan, directors Ryan Coogler (Creed) and Ava DuVernay (Selma) threw the #JusticeForFlint rally. The event raised money to help the city recover from its water crisis. Hosted by Hannibal Buress, it featured performances from Janelle Monáe, Stevie Wonder, Vic Mensa, and others. Watch Monáe and Wonder duet, and watch Mensa debut his song "16 Shots."

Just one year after Kendrick Lamar released To Pimp a Butterfly, Top Dawg Entertainment boss Anthony Tiffith is hinting that the rapper might release more music this year. He shared a prospective TDE schedule for the year, which also shows that new music from Schoolboy Q, SZA, Isaiah Rashad, and Ab-Soul are in the works.
Each artist's name is accompanied by a current status report ("sample clearance," "mixing," "4th stage creative"). Next to Lamar's name, it says, "??? (get Top on the phone)." Find it below.
They also tease a possible release in 2017 from "BH," which is likely referring to Black Hippy (Kendrick Lamar, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, and Jay Rock). Tiffith also seems to confirm two new signees, currently just listed as "John Doe 1" and "John Doe 2."
Lamar recently revealed that he has a "chamber" of unreleased songs, which he has been performing during late night TV and award show performances.
Last year, Panasonic revealed plans to relaunch its Technics turntable line, which it shelved in 2010 after decades as DJs' industry standard. In January, the electronics manufacturer unveiled its new Grand Class SL-1200G and limited-edition Grand Class SL-1200GAE at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. The only question was the price, which What Hi-Fi? reported at the time to be $4,000 for the non-limited model. (Pitchfork has reached out to Panasonic for exact pricing information.)
Technics CTO Tetsuya Itani has explained the price tag in a new interview with What Hi-Fi?. Itani said the new model costs more because it was redesigned "from scratch," as nearly all of the tools in the manufacturing process were no longer usable. Plus, the new Technics-1200 should be sturdier.
“Everything is new … except for the dust cover," Itani told What Hi-Fi?. "The weight of the platter is nearly three times the old 1200, and we also have a new motor, which is a very important point of the new model. The feet too. It's heavy, the old 1200 was more plastic."
Itani also reportedly hinted to What Hi-Fi? that Panasonic would consider releasing a less expensive model in the future.
The new limited-edition SL-1200GAE is set to be available this summer and restricted to 1,200 units, according to Panasonic's announcement during CES. The SL-1200G is scheduled for late 2016.

Jay Z faces a class-action lawsuit claiming the Tidal music streaming service underpaid royalties to artists and infringed copyright, as Complex reports.
A complaint filed February 27 in New York federal court named the hip-hop mogul's S. Carter Enterprises and two affiliates as defendants.
Jay Z's businesses allegedly created Tidal's library "by dumping all of the music from independent artists into" the service without filing the proper notices, claimed John Emanuele of New York duo the American Dollar, along with Yesh Music, Emanuele's music publishing firm with bandmate Richard Cupolo. They added, "Independent artists are predominantly impacted by defendants' systematic infringement."
The complaint further accused Jay Z's organizations of "deliberately miscalculating the per-stream royalty rates."
The suit seeks between $30,000 and $150,000 for each of 118 alleged infringements.
Pitchfork has reached out to Tidal for comment.
Jay Z tweeted last year that "Tidal pays 75% royalty rate to ALL artists, writers, and producers."
Emanuele and Cupolo previously filed copyright lawsuits against televangelist Joel Osteen and the now-defunct streaming service Grooveshark.
Samsung has resumed talks to acquire Tidal, the New York Post recently reported, citing "several" unnamed sources.
Update: Tidal's statement to the Fader:
Tidal is up to date on all royalties for the rights to the music stated in Yesh Music, LLC and John Emanuele’s claim and they are misinformed as to who, if anyone, owes royalty payments to them. As Yesh Music, LLC admits in their claim, Tidal has the rights to the Master Recordings through its distributor Tunecore and have paid Tunecore in full for such exploitations. Their dispute appears to be over the mechanical licenses, which we are also up to date on payments via Harry Fox Agency our administrator of mechanical royalties.
The main compositions in question were release by The American Dollar and their entire catalogue streamed fewer than 13,000 times on Tidal and its predecessor over the past year. We have now removed all music associated with Yesh Music, LLC and John Emanuele from the service. This is the first we have heard of this dispute and Yesh Music, LLC should be engaging Harry Fox Agency if they believe they are owed the royalties claimed. They especially should not be naming S Carter Enterprises, LLC, which has nothing to do with Tidal. This claim serves as nothing other than a perfect example of why America needs tort reform.
Vans is celebrating their 50th anniversary with a series of shows across the world. On February 21, Iggy Pop served as the nude model in a life drawing class at the New York Academy of Art. The session was organized by the Brooklyn Museum and conceived by British artist Jeremy Deller. The resulting drawings, created by 21 artists ranging in age from 19 to 80, will be showcased in a Fall 2016 Brooklyn Museum exhibition titled "Iggy Pop Life Class," which will then go on tour.
Deller said of the project, "The life class is a special place in which to scrutinize the human form. As the bedrock of art education and art history, it is still the best way to understand the body. For me it makes perfect sense for Iggy Pop to be the subject of a life class; his body is central to an understanding of rock music and its place within American culture. His body has witnessed much and should be documented."
Iggy Pop's collaboration with Josh Homme, Post Pop Depression, is out March 18. Listen to "Sunday" below.

Singer/songwriter Larkin Grimm has released a new song called "I Don't Believe." "This song was written for all the survivors of abuse. You are not alone," she wrote on the song's Bandcamp page. Last week, Grimm wrote a Facebook post claiming that Swans frontman Michael Gira raped her in spring 2008, when she was recording her album Parplarfor Gira's Young God label. In her post, she said she confronted Gira and he then dropped her from his label. Gira called Grimm's accusations "a slanderous lie" on his personal Facebook page. Later, in an official statement through his publicist, Gira refered to the incident as "an awkward mistake," describing it as a "consensual romantic moment that fortunately was not consummated." In her own statement, Grimm responded to Gira: "This is your truth as you remember it. Unfortunately, this was still rape."
Here are the lyrics to "I Don't Believe":
I don't believe you ever could be So like those men around you. So hungry.
I don't believe you ever think about it But you remember words like they were more than music.
I don't believe you could ever be that way Addicted to the pleasure, the things that people say. I wrote this poem for you on your birthday, Your mother read the poem And said it couldn't be you Nothing so beautiful Could come from something I made. I don't believe you.
I don't believe you You hear your mother cry I wish that I could die I wish that you would die too So I could play outside I could be free with you. I don't believe you.
I don't believe you need to think about it But you remember words like they were more than music. You hear the words I'm speaking as more than poetry.

Last night at the Oscars, Chris Rock used his platform as host to spotlight Hollywood's diversity crisis. As well as focusing several gags on the "Oscars So White" controversy, he also walked out on stage at the beginning of his monologue to Public Enemy's "Fight the Power." The song later played out the show as the credits rolled. Chuck D noticed, and took to Twitter to address the track's use. Watch TV footage of the closing credits below, and scroll down to read Chuck D's tweets.
"Fight the Power" was featured in Spike Lee's 1989 breakthrough film Do the Right Thing. In November, Lee received an honorary Oscar for his filmmaking work, but boycotted the 2016 ceremony due to the lack of nominations for actors of color.

During tonight's Academy Awards, Lady Gaga performed "Til It Happens to You," from the campus sexual assault documentary The Hunting Ground. Wearing a white suit, she played a large white piano. At the song's crescendo, she was joined by a crowd of survivors on stage. The song, written by Diane Warren with Gaga, is nominated for Best Original Song. Gaga's performance was introduced by Vice President Joe Biden with a speech about preventing sexual assault and encouraging people to visit ItsOnUs.org. Watch the performance below.
This afternoon, Gaga tweeted:
.@kesharose I'll be thinking of u 2nite. This is not over we'll stand by u until you are free to live a HAPPY life. Everyone deserves that.
Ennio Morricone has won the 2016 Best Original Score Academy Award for his music for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. Morricone beat John Williams (Star Wars: TheForce Awakens), Carter Burwell (Carol), Jóhann Jóhannsson (Sicario), and Thomas Newman (Bridge of Spies) for the Oscar.
Morricone was previously nominated for Days of Heaven, The Mission, The Untouchables, Bugsy, and Malèna. (In 2006, he won an honorary Oscar.) Morricone recently won the Best Original Score Golden Globe for The Hateful Eight.
Listen to The Hateful Eight's opening track "L'Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock - Versione Integrale" and watch the trailer below.
Dave Grohl wasn't nominated for an Oscar this year, but as promised, he delivered a special performance. He sang the Beatles' "Blackbird" during the Academy Awards' annual "In Memoriam" segment. Watch video below.
David Bowie was honored in the segment. They played a clip from his appearance in Zoolander.
ANOHNI, one of the nominees for Best Original Song, was not asked to perform at this year's Oscars, due to "time constraints." Read her thoughts about that in her essay "Why I Am Not Attending the Academy Awards."
Before Grohl's performance, the Foo Fighters Twitter account sent out a message of support for ANOHNI:
Amy, Asif Kapadia's documentary about Amy Winehouse, has won the 2016 Oscar for Best Documentary. It beat the Nina Simone documentary What Happened Miss Simone?, as well as Cartel Land, The Look of Silence, and Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom.
Tonight at the Oscars, the Weeknd performed his Best Original Song-nominated track "Earned It" from Fifty Shades of Grey. Surrounded by candles and chandeliers, he sang the track alongside a team of dancers and a string section. (The performance looked an awful lot like the song's music video.) Watch it happen below.
At tonight's Oscars ceremony, Sam Smith performed his song "Writing's on the Wall," from the James Bond film Spectre. It's one of the nominees for Best Original Song. "Writing's on the Wall" was co-written by Smith and Jimmy Napes; it was produced by Disclosure. Watch video of the performance below.
Smith was introduced by Sarah Silverman, who made jokes about sleeping with James Bond. After Smith's performance, Chris Rock made a joke about confusing Smith with George Michael, saying "Father Figure" is his "favorite song."
Earlier this year, "Writing's on the Wall" won the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. In an interview after the win, he revealed that he hadn't listened to Radiohead's "Spectre," which was originally written as a possible theme for the Bond movie. He also implied that he didn't care to ever hear it.
James Atkins, the bass player in Hammerbox and a stalwart of the Seattle music scene, died yesterday of esophageal cancer. He was 49.
In the late 1980s, Hammerbox formed in Seattle, where they amassed a cult following and played shows with Iggy Pop, Joan Jett, and others. In 1991 they released their self-titled debut album on C/Z, before signing to major label A&M for 1993's Numb. They were dropped, and split following year when singer Carrie Aker left to form Goodness. Atkins went on to play in Seattle bands such as Anodyne, which also featured Hammerbox guitarist Harris Thurmond, and Softy.
Hammerbox reunited in 2004, selling out a show at Seattle EMP released the following year as a live album. Last December, they reunited again to play a benefit for Atkins after his cancer diagnosis. The Gits (with Rachel Flotard on vocals), Coffin Break, and Alcohol Funnycar also reunited for the show.
Atkins died "surrounded by friends and his favorite music, including AC/DC, Motörhead, Soul Asylum, and The Replacements," according to a press release. Carrie Akre said, "James deeply loved his rock ‘n roll and adored his Pacific Northwest friends. He moved back over a year ago and to him, he was coming home. We are privileged to have known and played music with him."
Last August, Black Lives Matter protestors interrupted a Bernie Sanders rally in Seattle. Sanders allowed them to take the stage before organizers ended the event. This past week, another activist for the movement interrupted Hillary Clinton during a speech in South Carolina. The protestor questioned Clinton's political record, the two had a brief back-and-forth, and then the visitor was escorted away from the event. Sanders' biggest Jewel-Running supporter Killer Mike has been in South Carolina to campaign for Sanders for the state's Democratic primary election (which takes place today). Last night, in a speech at Claflin University, Mike strongly criticized Clinton for not allowing the protestor to speak, compared to Sanders, who stepped aside upon interruption. Watch Mike's speech, as well as the incident at the Clinton rally below, via Stereogum.
In addition to speaking at Claflin, Mike appeared on MSNBC. In an interview with Chris Hayes, he talks about his history of political activism, as well as the role he plays in the campaign as a rapper. Mike also suggests that Sanders trails Clinton in the South Carolina polls because her name is better known than his. (Clinton has since won the primary election.) Watch the whole thing below.
Killer Mike recently caught some flak for comments he made about Hillary Clinton, stating that "a uterus doesn't qualify you to be president of the United States. You have to have policy that's reflective of social justice." Mike later clarified, however, that he was quoting a progressive woman who had spoken to him about why she wasn't planning to vote for Clinton.
In addition to his work for Bernie, Mike discussed the controversy surrounding Beyoncé's "Formation" on HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher." He also recently penned an op-ed for CNN about a Supreme Court case concerning rap and the First Amendment.
Diplo and Skrillex's self-titledJack Ü album came out one year ago today. To mark the occasion, the duo have released a music video for their Kai-featuring track "Mind," which features a recap of the duo's past 12 months. Watch them travel to Machu Picchu, tour across Canada on a train, head to Thailand's Grand Palace, play halftime of a Clippers game, headline HARD Summer, and more. Watch the Liam Underwood-directed clip below.
In 2004, David Bowie released the concert film A Reality Tour, which was filmed at the 2003 Dublin performances of his final tour. In 2010, a live album of those shows was released. On June 3, Friday Music will reissue the album in a 3xLP box set on 180-gram translucent blue vinyl. Find the tracklist and more details here.
"It is an honour. We are very thankful," said Regine Chassagne in a statement. "It helps us continue the work."
In 2006, Arcade Fire began donating a dollar of each concert ticket sold to Partners in Health, a nonprofit organization that helps provide health care to poverty-stricken areas of the world.
The Juno Gala Dinner & Awards will take place on April 2 in Calgary, Alberta, which is the day before the awards show ceremony.

Yesterday, singer/songwriter Larkin Grimmclaimed that Swans frontman Michael Gira raped her in spring 2008, when she was recording her album Parplarfor Gira's Young God label. In a Facebook post yesterday, she said she confronted Gira and he then dropped her from his label. Gira called Grimm's accusations "a slanderous lie" on his personal Facebook page. In an official statement through his publicist, Gira has acknowledged the spring 2008 night in question, but calls the incident "an awkward mistake." Read his full statement below. Update (2/27, 9:40 a.m.):Grimm sent us a statement in response to Gira's comments, which she calls "an admission of guilt." Read it below.
Gira:
Eight years ago, while I was still married to my first wife, Larkin Grimm and I headed towards a consensual romantic moment that fortunately was not consummated. As she wrote in her recent social media postings about that night, I said to her, "this doesn't feel right," and abruptly but completely our only intimate encounter ended. It was an awkward mistake.
Larkin may regret, as I certainly do, that the ill-advised tryst went even that far, but now, as then, I hold her in high esteem for her music and her courage as an artist.
I long ago apologized to my wife and family and told them the truth about this incident. My hope is that Larkin finds peace with the demons that have been darkening her soul since long before she and I ever met.
Grimm:
This is a perfect example of why we need to have education about consent. In a gentlemanly move he admits the act happened but cannot conceive of himself as a rapist. Thank you Michael Gira for your honesty. This is your truth as you remember it. Unfortunately, this was still rape. I said no to you many times before that day, begged you not to interfere with me sexually, even made it a part of a verbal agreement we had when I signed a contract with you. I asked you to promise that you would never have sex with me. You assured me that I could trust you. That is about as clear a NO as I could ever cry. I asked for this because I had had other experiences in my music career and I KNEW.
That night I was far too intoxicated to give you consent for any sexual act. The psychological effects of this betrayal were devastating. Even worse, when I finally confronted you about what you had done, you terminated my relationship with Young God Records, damaging my career and leading people to believe there was something wrong with me or my music.
In the end, this is about business. Art is my career. I have worked long and hard for this career, making incredible sacrifices along the way to continue to make music. The fact that a man in power can throw a women's life and work away like they are garbage, simply because she won't sleep with him, is an immoral injustice that happens to many, many women in music. I won't stand for it and neither should you.
The "Demons darkening my soul" are the men like you who interfere with my ability to do my work as a musician. This is a job I am good at. All I want is to be left in peace while I am working.
