Michael McDonald has announced a new album called Wide Open, and it arrives September 15 via BMG. It marks his first solo LP of original material in 17 years, following the release of Blue Obsession in 2000. (His three albums since then, Motown, Motown Two, and Soul Speak consisted of covers.) According to a press release, the new album features Warren Haynes, Robben Ford, Marcus Miller and Branford Marsalis. The former Doobie Brothers singer most recently appeared on Thundercat’s excellent album Drunk, collaborating with the singer-songwriter/bassist on “Show You the Way.” McDonald has a series of tour dates leading up to the release of the new album; find those here.
