Marc Spitz, the music journalist who authored multiple books throughout his career, has died, Billboard reports. He was 47. Spitz was born in Far Rockaway, Queens. In 1997, he was hired by SPIN and wrote multiple cover stories. His first book was 2001’s We Got the Neutron Bomb, an oral history of L.A.’s punk scene—a spiritual companion piece to Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain’s Please Kill Me. His other books covered David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Green Day, twee, and more. His memoir Poseur was released in 2013. His writing appeared in Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, Salon, and more. Spitz was also a prolific playwright.
