Cyndi Lauper has denounced Madonna’s controversial speech at this weekend’s Women’s March on Washington, in which Madge told Donald Trump to “suck a dick” and dropped a “fuck you” on live television. Speaking on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live,” Lauper told host Andy Cohen that, while glad Madonna attended the march, she doesn’t think the speech “served our purpose,” as Entertainment Weekly points out. She added: “Anger is not better than clarity and humanity. That is what opens people’s minds.” Watch video below.
Elaborating on her criteria for a successful speech, Lauper cited Scarlett Johannson’s at the Women’s March, in which she spoke of dealing personally with Planned Parenthood. “It was clear, it was eloquent,” Lauper said. “Yelling just jacks people up. It doesn’t communicate any kind of humanity or any kind of story that would open another person’s mind.”
