“Portlandia” is returning to IFC on January 5, and ahead of the series’ seventh season premiere, three new skits from the series have been revealed. In “Weirdos Go Shopping,” Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein’s goth characters make a trip to Bed Bath & Beyond after discovering that even goths need vacuum cleaners. Other skits include Brownstein’s attempts to upgrade her acquaintances to full-fledged “friends,” and an exploration of the dreaded words “can I talk to you for a minute?” in the workplace. Watch the clips below, and find behind-the-scenes videos from Season 7 of “Portlandia” here.
In a previous trailer for the new season, Armisen and Brownstein mocked mens’ rights activists. This past September, the show was called out by In Other Words, the Portland-based feminist bookstore where “Portlandia” has filmed segments in the past. The bookstore staff accused the show of contributing to Portland’s gentrification, and of creating sketches that are “trans-antagonistic and trans-misogynist.”
