Iggy Pop and Danger Mouse have come together for a new song, “Gold.” It’s for Stephen Gaghan’s upcoming film Gold, starring Matthew McConaughey. Gaghan and the film’s composer Daniel Pemberton also worked with Iggy and Danger Mouse on the track. Previously, Iggy and Danger Mouse collaborated on Dark Night of the Soul’s “Pain.” In a press release, Iggy said:
This beautiful and unpredictable film spoke to me of violence, desire, destiny, lust and the inescapable twists of fate. The actors and the story spun a web of excitement that left me spent and breathless, so I tried to perform the vocal with that feeling in mind... I found myself at a new level of communication, standing there in the studio with Steve Gaghan and Danger Mouse, singing “GOLD”—a song for our times.
Inspired by a true story, Gold stars Matthew McConaughey as Kenny Wells, a man looking for gold in the jungles of Indonesia. Édgar Ramírez (Carlos, Zero Dark Thirty) and Bryce Dallas Howard (The Twilight Saga) also appear in the film, which sees a nationwide theatrical release on January 27, 2017. Watch the trailer below.
