Chance the Rapper has written the foreword for an upcoming book of poetry by Chicago writer and activist Kevin Coval. The book is called A People’s History of Chicago, and it will be released on April 11 by Haymarket Books. Coval’s book is composed of “seventy-seven poems (for the city’s seventy-seven neighborhoods)” that “honor the everyday lives and enduring resistance of the city’s workers, poor people, and people of color, whose cultural and political revolutions continue to shape the social landscape” according to a description on Haymarket’s website.
Kevin Coval is the founder of Louder Than A Bomb: The Chicago Youth Poetry Festival and the artistic director of Young Chicago Authors. Chance is an alumni of Young Chicago Authors’ workshops, and he appeared at last year’s Louder Than A Bomb.
Last week, Chance revealed that he is working on his debut album.
