Netflix has ordered a new Motown-themed animated series that will be soundtracked by the label’s hits, Variety reports. The unnamed project will follow an 8-year-old boy named Ben through a city called Motown where he discovers he can bring street art to life. The series is helmed by writer/director Josh Wakely, the creator of Netflix’s upcoming Beatles-inspired animated kids series “Beat Bugs,” and it’s executive produced by Motown great Smokey Robinson. For the series’ music, Robinson will supervise contemporary artists as they put a modern spin on 52 of the label’s classic songs. The songs will guide the narrative flow of each episode. No air date is currently set for the series.
