Tonight, John Cale performed the Velvet Underground & Nico's classic debut album at the Philharmonie de Paris. The set included the entirety of The Velvet Underground & Nico, in random order, as well as songs from White Light/White Heat. Cale was joined by special guests throughout the night: Animal Collective, the Libertines' Pete Doherty and Carl Barât, Mark Lanegan, Etienne Daho, Lou Doillon, and Lemon Jelly's Nick Franglen. Watch them do "I'll Be Your Mirror," "White Light/White Heat," "Femme Fatale," and "There She Goes Again" below.
In addition, the Philharmonie hosted a corresponding exhibition on the Velvet Underground. Earlier this year, Cale appeared on Animal Collective's Painting Withtrack "Hocus Pocus," after they learned he was into their music. Read Cale and the band in conversation on The Thread.
