Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos Accuses Pharrell of Stealing "Take Me Out" Riff for Paloma Faith Song
Franz Ferdinand's Alex Kapranos has directed a tweet at Pharrell today implying that Paloma Faith's new single "Can't Rely on You" (written by, produced by, and featuring Pharrell) lifts a riff directly from Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out".
"Hey @Pharrell - I love your tunes," he writes. "If you want to borrow a riff, just ask..." In response to a fan who tweeted, "maybe you could buy him a new hat once he's paid up?," Kapranos tweeted, "Let's hope it's a hit, then. Again."
Pharrell hasn't responded. Representatives for Paloma Faith have not responded to a request for comment.
The song certainly doesn't sound dissimilar to "Take Me Out"...

Burial Posts Selfie and Long Note Teasing New Music
This is not a drill. Burial, the posterchild for purposeful anonymity in electronic music, has posted a selfie and a long note to Hyperdub's website. The memo doubles as a thank-you to his fans and his label for putting up with him and a hesitant announcement that he'll be putting out new music and reissuing old music soon. Hyperdub has confirmed that it's all real, and not one of the many Burial-related hoaxes that have surfaced over the years.
The full note:
Hi this is will, I just want to say thank you to anyone out there who liked my burial tunes & supported me over the years. its really appreciated. Massive thank you anyone who got my records & all producers, DJs, radio stations, labels, shops, writers & journalists.. anyone who played my tunes, gave them a listen, or helped me out with it, made me want to keep going with it. Also shout out anyone who sent me tunes, messages, anyone I met along the way & a big shout out to anyone who supports or does independent & underground music.
I want to do some new tunes this year to send to my boss Steve and the label because they've been going 10 years now and have stuck by me. Hopefully by the end of most years I have done some tunes that are decent enough to release. but Dark Souls 2 is on the horizon soon so I'm not sure if I will have many new tunes for a while because I need to play that game a lot. But I'm going to try to get some new tunes together before it comes out.
Also I want to go and find some old tunes I did that still sound alright and never came out.. It would be nice to finally put some of them out on vinyl one day.
Also I want to tell my Mum my Dad my brothers and my sister that I love them to bits. Big shout out to the UK & everywhere else. Cheers & respect to everyone and anyone...be safe & take care
Will

Bob Dylan Featured in Super Bowl Commercials for Chobani, Chrysler
Bob Dylan will have a strong presence during this year's array of Super Bowl advertisements. His beloved "I Want You" appears in a new commercial for Chobani yogurt (starring a bear and voiced by Mandy Patinkin of "Homeland" fame), Billboard reports. And Dylan himself will actually appear in a commercial for Chrysler—for its new 200 model—set to air during the game. No specifics about the advertisement have been revealed, but it cannot possibly be weirder than the time he sung about Pepsi with will.i.am. for a Super Bowl ad in 2009.

Listen: Drake Sings in Spanish on Romeo Santos' "Odio"
Drake is taking his post-Nothing Was the Same run in an unexpected direction: Here he is, singing softly in Spanish, on "Odio", the new single from bachata star Romeo Santos. It's an awesomely bold move for someone who's constantly fending off accusations of being too soft. (He raps a verse, too, and in English.)
Recall that Drake shouted out Santos' group Aventura on "The Motto" ("Spanish girls love me like I'm Aventura.") "Odio" will appear on Santos' upcoming record Formula Vol. 2, which also features Nicki Minaj. It's out February 25.

UK singer/producer Sampha, who only has a handful of official releases floating around, has made some more of his music available. Initially distributed in a limited-edition run of CDs, he's offering them on a pay-as-you-can basis, with proceeds going to the Youth Cancer Trust.
He adds a disclaimer: "While away on some adventures away from home my brother accidentally deleted the master files from my computer so they exist only as low quality unmastered mp3s."

Venezuelan producer Arca has teamed up again with visual artist Jesse Kanda (they worked together on a multimedia event at MoMA PS1 last year) for a new piece for SSENSE's Spring 2014 collections. The video features new music from Arca (he samples lines from Britney Spears' "I'm a Slave 4 U") and visuals from Kanda. Kanye West Intensifies Legal Action Against Coinye, Goes After Amazon
Kanye West is pushing back harder against Coinye West, a new virtual currency that bears his likeness in cartoon form. After his lawyers sent a cease-and-desist last week—via email to coinyewest@gmail.com— he's filed documents in New York requesting that a judge shut down the marketing and sale of the currency, TMZ reports. Because the identities of the creators of Coinye West are still unknown, Kanye has had to request an injunction against a number of companies potentially responsible for the currency.
TMZ reports that Kanye has added Amazon to the list of targets on the basis that Amazon provides web-hosting services to Coinye-affiliated websites. He's also suing for a portion of the profits earned off Coinye West. The currency's website is still up and running, however.

Third Man Records to Release Four Singles From the White Stripes' Elephant on Vinyl
The 19th installment of Third Man Records' "Vault" subscription series features limited colored vinyl editions of the four singles from the White Stripes' 2003 album Elephant: "Seven Nation Army", "I Just Don't Know What to Do With Myself", "The Hardest Button to Button", and "There's No Home for You Here".
According to the Third Man site, the sleeves for these singles were made using a process called "soft touch aqueous coating," which means that they feel like "a hybrid between rubber and lambskin." All four records will come inside of a custom-made box, as pictured above. More information can be found at Third Man Records.

Echo Chamber: Stephen Malkmus Doesn't Like Spotify Very Much Either
"I think it sucks. That doesn't mean my music isn't on there, though. I'm against a lot of things that I do in life, and I still do them, so there's a lot of self-deception in all our lives. At least in the life of an unprincipled musician."

Rick Ross is suing LMFAO
Photo via Rick Ross' Instagram
Rick Ross and the two-man production team the Runners are suing pop outfit LMFAO for copyright infringement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The dispute focuses on LMFAO's 2010 hit "Party Rock Anthem" and the phrase "Everyday I'm shufflin'," which the suit alleges is infringement on Ross' 2006 hit "Hustlin'". (“Everyday I’m shufflin’...” in “Party Rock Anthem” is performed in a manner to sound like “Everyday I’m hustlin’...” in “Hustlin’”, is a prominent hook of “Party Rock Anthem” and is an obvious attempt to capitalize on the fame and success of "Hustlin’"," the suit reads).
Rick Ross recently scored a legal victory against drug kingpin "Freeway" Rick Ross, who sued the rapper for adopting his name and likeness. An appeals court dismissed the case, citing the First Amendment.
