Coldplay have defended Noel Gallagher after Liam criticized his brother and ex-Oasis bandmate for failing to appear at the “One Love Manchester” benefit concert. At the event Sunday night, Coldplay paid tribute to the Manchester group, covering “Don’t Look Back in Anger” for Ariana Grande and joining Liam for a rendition of “Live Forever.” Early Monday morning, Liam apologized for his brother’s absence, tweeting, “Noels out of the fucking country weren't we all love get on a fucking plane and play your tunes for the kids you sad fuck.” Tweeting this morning, Coldplay’s Chris Martin shared a more sympathetic take on Noel’s absence, acknowledging his permission to perform the covers and adding, “everyone knew in advance you couldn't be there physically, so thank you for being there in spirit.” See his tweets below.

In his recent Pitchfork interview, Liam explained that he didn’t think an Oasis reunion would be happening anytime soon. “The person holding an Oasis reunion back is Noel, not me,” he said. Revisit “Dueling Potato Brothers: The Collected Oasis Fights and Insults.”
