Liam Gallagher’s debut solo album As You Were is due out this year. Today, he’s shared the first single from that album. It’s called “Wall of Glass,” and it’s got a slick new François Rousselet-directed music video that’s full of mirrors. Watch it below. According to Gallagher, the video’s visuals were inspired in part by James Bond and Bruce Lee films. “I did get to wear a gold Saint Laurent hooded jacket in one scene, which I convinced myself made me look like a modern day Elvis, as he loved to wear gold suits,” he told Pitchfork via email. Gallagher has also revealed that the new album will arrive sometime in October. “I think it’s up there with the best work I’ve ever done,” Gallagher said of the album. “And so will you, when you hear it.”
Last night, Gallagher played his first solo UK show at the Manchester Ritz, with profits benefiting victims of the Manchester Arena bombing. While rumors swirled about Noel and Liam setting aside their differences for a one-off reunion, the Gallagher brothers haven’t buried the hatchet just yet. “I’ve said this a million times before—the person holding an Oasis reunion back is Noel, not me,” Liam told Pitchfork. Instead, Gallagher reunited with a different Oasis bandmate, Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs. Find footage of him performing Oasis’ “Be Here Now” below.
In recent weeks, Gallagher has taken to his Twitter account to make fun of his brother’s collaboration with Damon Albarn on the new Gorillaz album. When asked if he expects Noel to retaliate and criticize his new solo music, Liam replied, “Probably not, he’s not brave enough.” (He also doubled down on the whole “potato” thing: “I honestly think he looks like one.”)
In March, he announced he’d be playing his first-ever solo North American show at Osheaga. He’s also set for this year’s Lollapalooza, and Gallagher says that more North American shows will be announced later this year.
