Father John Misty Gives Absurd, Dramatic Performance of “Pure Comedy” on German TV: Watch

Joshua Tillman (aka Father John Misty) was recently on German late night show “Neo Magazin Royale” to perform music from his forthcoming record Pure Comedy. Today, the program shared a new online-exclusive video of Tillman singing the album’s title track. The performance is a typically dramatic Misty affair, with Tillman beginning seated in front of neon fluorescent lights. His face then gets transposed over the accompanying pianist, and later, he busts some moves in front of a small orchestra. Watch Tillman do “Pure Comedy,” as well as “Total Entertainment Forever,” which aired previously, below.

Pure Comedy is out this Friday, April 7 via Sub Pop/Bella Union. In addition to “Pure Comedy” and “Total Entertainment Forever” (both of which he did on “Saturday Night Live”), Tillman has shared “Ballad of the Dying Man” and “Two Wildly Different Perspectives,” as well as a “radio edit” of the 13-minute “Leaving LA” (which he sang in full for BBC Radio 6).

Check out our new feature interview with Tillman called “Here Is the Scandalous Father John Misty Interview You’ve Been Waiting For.”
