Master P’s life story is headed for the big screen. The rapper’s biopic, King of the South, will begin shooting in his native New Orleans this summer, with Queen Latifah and The Wire’s Wendell Pierce slated to participate, according to a press release (via The Fader). There will be a casting call for New Orleans natives in Gretna, Louisiana on April 4. According to the film's website, they are looking for actors to play Master P, Silkk the Shocker, C-Murder, Mia X and others. “I would like to give New Orleans natives an opportunity to play major roles in this film, I want the movie to have an authentic feel,” Master P said in a statement. “I believe there are so many talented actors and actresses that just need a shot.”
“The timing is right for me to tell my story, it was tough back then especially being from the South, New Orleans was the murder capital at the time,” Master P said. “I want others to learn from my mistakes and understand my work ethic of never giving up, no matter what it may look like.”
Master P was recently featured on Solange's 2016 LP, A Seat at the Table, speaking about his lengthy career and No Limit’s success.
