Kevin Gates was due for release from jail today, after serving a 180-day battery charge for kicking a woman in the crowd during a show. Instead, he’ll remain in prison, TMZ reports. As authorities were processing his release, they found an outstanding weapons-related warrant, according to TMZ. A hearing is reportedly due later today.
Back in October, Gates was convicted after one day of testimony. He claimed that he kicked 18-year-old Miranda Dixon in self-defense after she grabbed his legs multiple times, WFLA reported. “I kicked them, I wanted them off me,” he said. Dixon said that she was trying to get his attention for her friend. That friend, Teremal Redding, testified that she wanted Gates’ attention “because he is a famous rapper.” She also testified that when Dixon grabbed him the first time, he continued performing, but the second time, he became violent and kicked her with force.
