Thundercat Enlists Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald for New Song From New Album Drunk: Listen

Thundercat has announced his new album Drunk, the follow-up to 2015’s mini-album The Beyond / Where the Giants Roam and 2013’s Apocalypse. It's out February 24 via Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. The first single is “Show You the Way,” and no kidding, it features guest vocals from yacht rock’s twin pillars, Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. Listen, and find the album’s incredible artwork and tracklist below. The album also features Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Kamasi Washington, Pharrell, and Wiz Khalifa; and includes previously released tracks “Them Changes” and “Bus in These Streets.”

During Brainfeeder’s showcase at the Hollywood Bowl last year, McDonald made a surprise appearance alongside Thundercat. Later, Thundercat met Loggins, and they began working on music together. Ultimately, Loggins suggested adding McDonald to “Show You the Way.” As part of a forthcoming interview, the bassist told RBMA:

That song to me is about going down the rabbit hole, taking you to another place... On the edge of dark, there’s the brightest light. It means a lot to me in the sense of... the experience that I’ve had growing up with friends and people that I’ve been around where it’s inviting them into where I come from emotionally. Sometimes it’s a pretty intense thing. The point is how weird things can get. I feel like it’s very funny that, in a way, of course Michael McDonald and Kenny would be there.

A vinyl edition of the album will become available on March 10. It features four red 10” records in a lift-off box. It comes with photography by Eddie Alcazar and artwork by Zack Fox. Thundercat has also announced a world tour behind the album, which includes appearances at this year’s Coachella. Find those dates below.
