Grimes, Sia Match Donations to Groups Fighting Trump’s Immigration Ban

On Friday, Donald Trump signed an executive order to close U.S. borders to immigrants and refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries. Protests have broken out as people around the world have responded to the news with fear and anger. Among the artists who have spoken out are Grimes and Sia, who have both announced that they’ll be matching donations made to organizations committed to fighting Trump’s immigration ban.

Grimes announced today that she will match donations to the Council on American-Islam Relations (CAIR) up to $10,000. She encourages her followers to send a secreenshot of their donations, noting that “anything helps.” Sia also announced a charity campaign, matching all donations to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) up to $100,000 in an effort to “help our queer and immigrant friends.”

Both the ACLU and CAIR have spoken out against Trump’s actions and confirmed plans to file lawsuits against him. “President Trump’s war on equality is already taking a terrible human toll,” reads a statement on the ACLU website. “Help us protect the rights of refugees and immigrants — and everyone across America.”
