The Decemberists recently launched a new board game, Illmat, in collaboration with game designer Keith Baker and illustrator Carson Ellis. Today, their Kickstarter push came to an end—the game raised $416,358, far surpassing their goal of $42,812. (The band met the goal quickly after the Kickstarter campaign was launched.) First developed in 2009 for a photoshoot, Illimat is a 2-4 player game in which a single hand can be played in fifteen minutes. “Playing board games before going on stage has become a ritual,” said the band’s lead singer Colin Meloy.
