White House, SXSW Throwing One-Day Festival

White House, SXSW Throwing One-Day Festival

In March, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama spoke at SXSW. The First Lady’s keynote speech featured Missy Elliott, Diane Warren, and Sophia Bush, and was moderated by Queen Latifah. Now, inspired by that festival, the Obama administration has joined forces with SXSW to hold its own small-scale version at the White House, as NPR reports.

The one-day festival is called South by South Lawn and it’s set for October 3. The event will consist of interactive, film, and music portions, just like SXSW. “Musical performances will include well-known and emerging artists who are using their music to inspire audiences,” according to the White House website. Organizers will be accepting online nominations of who should attend the festival through September 10 at 5 p.m. Eastern. The event is being thrown in coordination with SXSW, C3 Presents, American Film Institute (AFI), and the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities (PCAH). Find the logo below via the White House.
