BET will air an upcoming mini-series on the group New Edition called The New Edition Story. The six-hour event chronicles the group’s rise and fall. Watch a clip from the biopic below. The clip show growing discord between members with side-group Bell Biv Devoe interrupting Bobby Brown’s performance of “My Prerogative” to perform “Poison” before a fight breaks out. New Edition shared a statement about the biopic:
“From our beginning in the Orchard Park Projects in Boston to Hollywood and everything in between, just like the Temptations and the Jackson Five—we are ready to retrace our footsteps and show everyone how we got here. For the fans all over the world, this one’s for you.”
The cast includes Bryshere Y. Gray (Hakeem on “Empire”) as Michael Bivins, Luke James as Johnny Gill, Keith Powers (Straight Outta Compton) as Ronnie Devoe, Woody McClain as Bobby Brown, Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas in “Stranger Things”) as a young Ricky Bell, Wood Harris, Michael Rappaport, R&B singer Tank, and more. The six hour event will air January 24-26.
Earlier this month, Bell Biv Devoe reunited for their first song in 15 years, “Run.” Their album, Three Stripes =, arrives January 27.
