Canadian Punk Legends NoMeansNo Announce Retirement

Canadian prog punk band NoMeansNo have announced their retirement. In a Facebook post, the band’s drummer John Wright wrote that “a lingering hiatus has become a permanent one.” Wright and his brother/bassist Rob formed the band in Victoria, British Columbia in the late 1970s. They self-released their debut studio album Mama in 1982. Their final record, All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt, came out in 2006.

In 2010, Dave Grohl said NoMeansNo’s track “It’s Catching Up” (from 1989’s Wrong) is his third favorite hardcore song of all time. In 2015, the band were inducted into the Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame. In addition to the Wright brothers, NoMeansNo’s final lineup included guitarist Tom Holliston.
