Beyoncé Lemonade Lawsuit Thrown Out

In June, filmmaker Matthew Fulks filed a lawsuit against Beyoncé claiming that her film/visual album Lemonade lifted from his 2014 short film Palinoia. According to TMZ, Beyoncé’s camp subsequently filed court documents that pointed out the differences in narrative between Lemonade and Palinoia. Now, the judge has thrown away the lawsuit, TMZ reports. It has not yet been revealed why the case was dismissed.

Fulks’ original claim was that Lemonade took images from his film, in particular, shots of “overgrown grass.” Beyoncé’s camp, in turn, said her film did not take from his because hers is about “an African-American woman who progresses through stages of suspicion, denial, anger and, ultimately, reconciliation in her relationship.” They reportedly said Fulks’ film, in contrast, depicted a “white man who is distressed in the wake of a failed relationship.”
