Apollonia Shares Moving Open Letter to Prince

Prince collaborator and Purple Rain co-star Apollonia Kotero has shared an open letter on her Facebook page addressing her relationship with Prince and her feelings about his recent death. She calls the day he died “the worst day of my life,” and describes the “grief, depression, anger, and loneliness” she has been experiencing since. “I feel like your widow,” she writes. She also expresses dissatisfaction with the press coverage of his death. (“I am devastated by the horrible things said by those who do not know you”), and shared a memory of a 2014 private show at Paisley Park to celebrate Purple Rain's 30th anniversary.

She also writes, “My heart needs more time. I really miss your laughter. Your silly voices. But mostly, I miss your pancakes.”

Kotero ends her letter wondering how she could send this letter to Prince, joking that she might enlist the Duffer Brothers, creators of Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” for help: “I'm sure you're busy socializing with all your friends and music making up there, but where can I send this letter to you? Maybe I should call The Duffer Brothers for help, as we know stranger things have happened?” You can read the entirety of the letter below.

Earlier this week, Kotero made her first public appearance since Prince's death, at a Purple Rain celebration in L.A.

Earlier this month, it was announced Paisley Park will be turned into a museum and opened up for public tours.
