Beyoncé’s music video for “Formation” has won the MTV VMA’s Video of the Year award. You can watch the video below. The song appeared on her 2016 album Lemonade.
The “Formation” video (and Beyoncé’s performance of the song during the Super Bowl 50 halftime show) drew criticism from police unions and supporters, who cited the imagery of Beyoncé standing atop a sinking cop car and graffiti that reads “stop shooting us” to be “anti-police.” The singer later addressed the criticism, stating, “I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of the officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe. But let's be clear: I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things.” Earlier in the night, she also received the Best Female Video award for “Hold Up.”
