Finally. A year after it was initially set to be released, Frank Ocean’s follow-up to 2012’s excellent Channel Orange is finally coming this week. His new album is called Boys Don’t Cry and will be available on Friday as an Apple Music exclusive, The New York Times reports. An accompanying print publication will be available that same day at Apple Stores. It’s expected to stay an Apple exclusive for two weeks before coming widely available.
The album's release was preceded by a mysterious live stream, which slowly trickled out music. At the beginning of July, Ocean teased a set of new release dates, which followed an announcement in April 2015 where he'd said the record would be released in July of that year. (A deadline that came and went.)
This year, he surfaced on Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo and James Blake’s The Colour in Anything and starred in Calvin Klein's Fall 2016 campaign.
