In a recent interview, Lil Yachty said that he “honestly couldn’t name five songs” by 2Pac and the Notorious B.I.G. He continued, “But if I’m doing this my way and making all this money, why should I do it how everybody says it’s supposed to be done?” Apparently, Anderson .Paak disagrees. He didn’t directly address Yachty but tweeted, “Don’t be cocky in the fact that you don’t know anything about hip hop history. Real artists are students of the game first.”
Yachty responded, tweeting the thinking face emoji and a link to .Paak’s tweet. He then wrote, “I think it’s funny how people feel like you HAVE to like something just cause everybody else does. Or like I HAVE to know something.” He also quoted Chance the Rapper’s Acid Rap track “Lost.” (Yachty is featured on “Mixtape” on Chance’s Coloring Book.)
