Last week, the reunited Pixies announced Head Carrier, their follow-up to Indie Cindy. It’ll be their first record since 1991’s Trompe Le Monde to be conceived as a full album. (Indie Cindy comprised three EPs.) Now, Frank Black has discussed the record in a new BBC 6 Music interview. In the chat, Black mentions a new song on the record sung by new bassist Paz Lenchantin, which Black wrote as a “thank-you letter” to former bassist Kim Deal. He says the song came about when Lenchantin agreed to sing on a new track, on the condition that Black wrote the lyrics. When he asked what it should be about, she replied, “You have to write about Kim Deal ... like a thank-you letter.” Hear the interview below.
Elsewhere in the chat, Black says Head Carrier has “a bit of early-Pixies slosh in it,” and more in common with Doolittle than the albums that followed.
