Sixteen years after releasing their classic debut album, Since I Left You, the Avalanches are back. Zane Lowe announced on his Beats 1 show today that the group will release new music later today. He said, “Coming up at some point in the next 12 hours, new music will emerge and you will hear the first new interview with Tony [Di Blasi] and Robbie [Chater] aka the Avalanches.” He then announced on Twitter that the interview will air on Beats 1 at midnight tonight–that’s June 2 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern. Hear a teaser for the interview below.
Zane Lowe’s announcement follows the Avalanches’ April resurgence, which began when they updated their social media accounts with an image of a gold butterfly on black fabric (as seen above). They then announced some festival dates, including stops at Primavera Sound and Field Day. The next month, the Avalanches shared the teaser video “Since They Left Us,” which featured appearances from Father John Misty, Ariel Pink, Danny Brown, and more. Shortly after the video, they opened a phone hotline where fans could hear “Subways.”
