Billy Corgan Talks D'arcy Wretzky: "I'm Encouraged to Hear That She Is Playing Music Once More"

Last night, the Smashing Pumpkins played the last stop on their "In Plainsong" acoustic tour. On the plane after the final show, Billy Corgan posted a thank you note to fans on the band's Facebook. In it, he wishes a happy birthday to ex-Pumpkin and founding member D'arcy Wretzky, who'd recently said in an interview that she would "consider going back" to the band. Corgan said of Wretzky, "I'm encouraged to hear that she is playing music once more, and writing songs. As I've often said, no one had better musical discernment in our band than she." Corgan also addresses the state of the band, considering Wretzky's comments and that fellow founding member James Iha played with the Pumpkins for the first time in 16 years during the Los Angeles stops of the tour. He writes: "And as I feel speculation start to swirl about what happens next for SP, I'd like to say quite simply and directly that what matters most to Jeff [Schroeder, current Smashing Pumpkins guitarist] and I is the music." Read the full note below.
