Kanye West, D'Angelo, the Roots, Chuck D, Busta Rhymes Pay Tribute to A Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg: Watch

Kanye West, D'Angelo, the Roots, Busta Rhymes, Chuck D, Consequence, and many more paid their respects at a celebration of A Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Past and present NBA players Jamal Crawford, Damien Lillard, Draymond Green, and Chris Weber paid tribute via pre-recorded videos. Artists, friends, and family told stories about Phife during the event, which is streaming live tonight via Revolt. D'Angelo also performed with the Roots. Watch the stream, as well as some footage of West speaking at the event, below.

Rhymes was brought to tears talking about A Tribe Called Quest's influence on his group Leaders of the New School, sitting in on Tribe sessions, and how he ended up on "Scenario." "I just want to thank my man Malik Taylor, Phife Dawg, the Five-Foot Assassin, for being the big brother I needed when I was at a crossroads in my life," he said.

Phife Dawg, born Malik Taylor, died was from "complications resulting from diabetes," according to his family and manager. He was 45. Several other artists paid tribute to Phife after his passing. A new Dilla-produced Phife Dawg song called "Nutshell" premiered today on Beats 1.
