Tonight was the first major electoral event on the road to the presidency—the Iowa caucus. Democratic candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton are currently in a virtual tie. After Sanders' speech in Des Moines, he walked off while David Bowie's "Starman" played over the speakers. Watch it happen below (around the 16:35 mark).
As PBS points out, the song has been a part of his campaign in the days leading up to the Iowa caucus.
Several high-profile musicians have endorsed Sanders at this point: Neil Young, Vampire Weekend, Lil B, Killer Mike, Jeff Tweedy, Thurston Moore, Dirty Projectors' Dave Longstreth, MC5's Wayne Kramer, and many others.
