Back in 1997, Matador Records filmed a fake children's show to be released on VHS in conjunction with their compilation What's Up Matador. It featured cameos from Liz Phair, Yo La Tengo, Jon Spencer, Railroad Jerk, Run On, Matador's staff, and more. Today, they've shared the goofy infomercial—watch it below.
Here's the story—Matador hired actual TV host Bill Boggs to host the show, but didn't tell him that it was a comedy. It was written and directed by Clay Tarver (of Chavez/the show "Silicon Valley") and featured several music videos. Apparently, when the tape was released, an error at the VHS plant meant customers who ordered the tape actually got copies of Lord of the Dance.
Matador have also launched a website chronicling the label's 27-year history. Check out "This Day in Matador History."
