Last year, Matmos' Drew Daniel broke revived the Soft Pink Truth moniker for Why Do The Heathen Rage?, his first album under that moniker since 2004. Today, he's shared the follow-up to that covers LP: an eight-track release titled Why Pay More?. It's described by Daniel as "YouTube-search-query based plunderphonic house music," and it's available as a pay-what-you-want download. Stream the album and check out the tracklist below.
Hear's what Daniel told FACT about the new album:
Why Pay More? was originally created for a performance at [Baltimore DIY festival] Whartscape in 2009, in which audience members had to guess the track’s BPM in order to win a prize (a life size bust of Master Chief from the video game Halo); it has been re-edited for this release. "What’s A Computer?" and "I Love Your Ass" are refugees from the era of the Do You Want New Wave? album and are left untouched; "Fire Island of the Mind" dates from the beginning of the Soft Pink Truth project, but has been remixed.

Next year, Matmos will release Ultimate Care II, an LP crafted entirely from washing machine sounds.
Full disclosure: Daniel has contributed to Pitchfork.
