Last night, Erykah Badu hosted the Soul Train Music Awards on BET and Centric. Early in the show, Badu threw some shade at Iggy Azalea that drew a loud reaction (mostly stunned laughter) from the audience. Speaking on the phone, she pretends to turn away André 3000 and Young Thug from the ceremony, saying she's "banning all rap this year." When Azalea calls, though, Badu makes an exception: "No no no, you can come, 'cause what you're doing is definitely not rap." Watch it below. (Note: Audio gets interrupted 40 seconds in; wait a few seconds before it returns.) Scroll down for more more clips from Badu's takeover.
Elsewhere in the show, Kendrick Lamar won Best Song for "Alright", Jidenna took Best New Artist, and the Weeknd was awarded R&B/Soul Male Artist of the Year and Best Album for Beauty Behind the Madness.
Watch Badu offer words of wisdom on Beyoncé, the Weeknd's hair, and Bruno Mars as Erykah Baduru in a web exclusive clip:
Badu also curated and DJed an "R&B/Soul Cypher". Watch that below:
