On August 16 at the Berserktown II festival in Los Angeles, Royal Trux will play a reunion show—their first since disbanding in 2001. In a new interview with NME, Jennifer Herrema discussed the reunion, which she said is only planned for the one show.
"It just totally depends on how it feels," Herrema told NME. "I know for a fact that [Royal Trux partner] Neil [Hagerty] doesn't want to travel much, he doesn't want to play big festivals, so that takes some things off the table. But I don't know, it's hard to say." There are no new recording plans either.
Herrema said that she and Hagerty haven't even been in the same room in 13 years, even though the show is happening in just a couple weeks. She did say they've been in e-mail contact, and that they've planned out the set list, although it isn't clear how much rehearsal they'll do.
In response to NME's question as to why they decided to reunite now, Herrema said, "We've never been open to the idea of reforming and playing full albums but when Neil said he was down with it, I was like, 'Well, it's right here in my backyard, I don't really have to do much.' It wasn't a long, drawn-out thinking about it. We didn't even solicit it. It was just, 'Bam!', right there. It probably would have fallen apart if it was something that actually had to be planned."
In other news, NME also reports that Herrema will star in Love, a new series that Judd Apatow is producing for Netflix. The show is set to premiere in 2016.
