SpongeBob Squarepants, the titular anthropomorphic sponge of the beloved Nickelodeon cartoon show, is getting his own Broadway musical. It'll feature original music by David Bowie, Dirty Projectors, the Flaming Lips, They Might Be Giants, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, T.I., Panic! at the Disco, Lady Antebellum, Plain White T's, and Jonathan Coulton, as Entertainment Weekly reports. The play is set to run in Chicago from June 7-July 3 of 2016, with a Broadway run planned for the 2016-17 season. This isn't the first time Bowie has done something for SpongeBob. Back in 2007, he voiced a character on an episode. A statement from a Nickelodeon executive described that slate of musicians as "a dream team of SpongeBob fans," which confirms the stars spend as much time lazing around and watching cartoons as you and me.
Bowie also has another theater project in the works as well: he's co-writing Lazarus, a theater production based on his character from The Man Who Fell to Earth that will open this fall.
