In the process of making Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, the forthcoming documentary about the late Nirvana frontman, director Brett Morgen was given access to Kurt Cobain's personal tapes, most of which had never been heard before. One of those tapes included a cover of the Beatles' "And I Love Her", which you can listen to below via Rolling Stone. The cover will appear in the documentary.
"Nobody in Kurt's life — not his management, wife, bandmates — had ever heard his Beatles thing," Morgen told Rolling Stone. "I found it on a random tape. It's a Paul song. How's that for shattering the myth?" As RS points out, Cobain was once quoted as saying, "I like the Beatles, but I hate Paul McCartney." (In 2012, McCartney teamed up with the surviving members of Nirvana for a new song.)
HBO will air Montage of Heck on May 4. It is screening in select theaters now.
