Universal's N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton , (named after the seminal rap group's 1988 debut) has officially been cast and is currently set to begin filming after a five year stasis, the Hollywood Reporter confirms. One of the reasons for the delay was the issue of getting Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Eazy-E's widow, Tomica Wright, to agree and sign off on the actors who would portray the legendary group.
This week, those actors were finally selected, and today Dr. Dre took to his twitter to share of photo of the cast (above) as well as to announce the film's release date: August 14, 2015.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Ice Cube's son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., will portray his father, and classically-trained actor Marcus Callender will play Dre. Eazy-E will be portrayed by a New Orleans-based actor named Jason Mitchell.
As previously reported, F. Gary Gray will direct.
Straight Outta Compton will begin principle photography in two months.
