Boyz n the Hood/Poetic Justice director John Singleton will re-write, direct, and produce a biopic on the late Tupac Shakur, Variety reports. Singleton, who worked with Tupac on 1993's Poetic Justice, had been involved in the project before, but the deal fell through. Shakur's mother, Afeni Shakur, will executive produce. The new biopic will focus on Tupac's rise to fame from the early days of his career until his murder in 1996. No word yet on which actor will portray Shakur in the film. Singleton said in Variety:
“Tupac was the guy who I planned to do a lifetime of films with,” Singleton said. “His passing deeply affected my life as well as countless people in this world. His life story is important to my generation.”
