Watch Gorillaz Demon Dayz Festival Live Stream

Today marks the inaugural Demon Dayz festival from Gorillaz. It happens at the Dreamland amusement park in Margate, England. The day is set to feature performances from Vince Staples and Danny Brown (who are currently on tour with Gorillaz)—as well as De La Soul, Little Simz, and more. Check out the full schedule here, and watch the live stream starting at 2 p.m. Eastern on Red Bull TV below. Earlier this year, Gorillaz released their album Humanz, which features some of the artists set to perform at the fest. This week, they shared a video for “Sleeping Powder,” their first new song since Humanz.

Watch Ice Cube Question Bill Maher About Controversial Remarks on “Real Time”

Tonight, Ice Cube appeared on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher” following last week’s episode, in which Maher used a racial slur. Maher started tonight’s episode with an apology: “I did a bad thing. For black folks, that word, I don't care who you are, it's caused pain. It doesn't matter that it was not said in malice, it caused pain and that's why I apologized." When Cube joined Maher on stage, the rapper stated he was “cool with” Maher and enjoyed the show. However, he then immediately took Maher to task over his racist remarks. He said:

I accept your apology, but I think we need to get to the root of the psyche. Because I think it’s a lot of guys out there, who cross the line ‘cause they a little too familiar or they think they too familiar. Or its guys that y’know, might have a black girlfriend or two that made them some Kool-Aid every now and then. And they think they can cross the line. And they can’t. It’s a word that’s been used against us. It’s like a knife, man. You can use it as a weapon or you can use it as a tool. It’s been used as a weapon, against us. By white people. And we not gon’ let that happen again. By nobody. Because it’s not cool.

Originally, Ice Cube was booked to appear on tonight’s show to promote his new Death Certificate 25th anniversary reissue. Democratic Senator Al Franken, who was also set to appear on tonight’s episode, cancelled in the wake of Maher’s controversial joke. During Ice Cube’s Reddit AMA earlier today, a user asked the question, “Thoughts on Bill Maher using the n-word?” In response, Ice Cube wrote: “He needs to check him self before he wreck himself.”

Following last week’s episode, Maher and HBO have both issued apologies for the incident. “The word was offensive and I regret saying it and am very sorry,” Maher said in a statement. Killer Mike responded to Maher’s remarks, writing that he was “cool with” Maher: “My end goal is true freedom and not exhausting my life mad at white people when I can love my life loving black people.” Chance the Rapper weighed in by asking HBO to cancel Maher’s show.

M.I.A. to Host Talk With Julian Assange, Slavoj Žižek, More at Meltdown Festival

M.I.A. previously announced that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange would be speaking at this year’s Meltdown Festival, which she curated. Now, more details on Assange’s involvement have been revealed. M.I.A. will host a talk with Assange (who will appear remotely over a live link), along with philosophers Slavoj Žižek and Srećko Horvat. The discussion, titled “What’s Coming Next,” will “cover the complexities of global activism and art in a changing world,” according to a rep for the festival’s venue. The talk will go down from 10:30-11:45 a.m. on June 11 at the Weston Roof Pavilion of the Royal Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre.

After it was announced last month that Swedish authorities were dropping its investigation of sexual assault by Assange, M.I.A. penned an impassioned statement defending him. She recently shared a new song, “GOALS.”

Frank Ocean Performs “Self Control,” “Good Guy,” More at Tour Kickoff: Watch

Frank Ocean performed his first show since 2014 at NorthSide Festival in Denmark, where he delivered a set that included “Solo,” “Chanel,” “Biking,” and more. Now, new footage of him playing more songs has emerged, including Endless tracks “Commes Des Garcons” and “In Here Somewhere,” “Good Guy,” and an unreleased freestyle before “Self Control.” Find that video below, as well as an updating tracklist for the set . Ocean previously cancelled his appearances at other European festivals (including Primavera, Sasquatch!, and Hangout), citing “production delays” as the reason for cancellations. NorthSide attendees were also able to check out Ocean’s new shirts and other merchandise at a “blonded” merch tent.

Watch Frank Ocean Perform “Solo” at First Show in 3 Years

Scissor Sisters and MNDR Join for New Benefit Song “SWERLK”: Listen

Scissor Sisters and MNDR have shared a new collaborative track, “SWERLK.” The song has been released in celebration of Pride Month and in honor of the one-year anniversary of the mass shootings at Pulse nightclub in Orlando. Proceeds from the single are being donated to Contigo Fund, a non-profit established in the wake of the Pulse mass shooting to “fund community organizations working to heal, educate and empower LGBTQ and Latinx individuals, immigrants, and people of color.” Check out the song’s lyric video below, and download it here.

Scissor Sister’s Babydaddy said in a statement, “The community that brought Scissor Sisters and MNDR to life experienced an incredible loss that we can’t allow to be forgotten. ‘SWERLK’ is our way to honour the people and culture that allowed us to escape and be ourselves.”

Lil Wayne Sued By Bouncer for Assault, Hate Crime

Lil Wayne has been accused of assault and battery, as well as a hate crime, in a new lawsuit brought against him by a California security guard, as TMZ points out. The suit alleges that Wayne and his entourage came to Hyde nightclub in Los Angeles for a BET Awards after-party, and that Wayne punched the bouncer while attempting to enter the club. The bouncer claims that Wayne then “threw a glass filled with alcohol” in his face and yelled “Fuck you white boy!” According to TMZ, representatives for Wayne have denied that the rapper punched the plaintiff. Pitchfork has reached out to reps for Lil Wayne for comment.

Emily Haines (Metric, Broken Social Scene) Announces First New Album in 11 Years

Metric frontwoman and Broken Social Scene member Emily Haines has announced a new album under her Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton moniker, as Rolling Stone reports. It’s titled Choir of the Mind, and it marks her first full-length solo LP since 2006’s Knives Don’t Have Your Back. The album is due out September 15 via Last Gang/eOne. Haines has also shared a video for her new song, “Fatal Gift,” directed by Justin Broadbent. Watch it below. Emily Haines will appear on the new Broken Social Scene album Hug of Thunder, due out July 7 via City Slang/Arts & Crafts. Metric’s last album, Pagans in Vegas, was released in 2015.

Sufjan Stevens, the National’s Bryce Dessner, composer Nico Muhly, and Sufjan collaborator James McAlister have come together on a new project inspired by the solar system, Planetarium. With song titles like “Venus,” “Saturn,” and “Moon,” the new album is the recorded version of a performance that the quartet assembled in years prior. A short tour behind the new project is set to begin later this summer.

Frank Ocean Actually Performing Tonight, Selling New Merch

Frank Ocean is scheduled to perform tonight at NorthSide Festival in Aarhus, Denmark. He is currently set to take the stage at 11:15 p.m. local time (5:15 p.m. Eastern). The NorthSide show will mark Frank’s first live performance since summer 2014. Along with his return to the stage, Frank has his own merch tent at NorthSide. There are t-shirts with Frank’s “blonded RADIO” logo, as well as the Blonde album artwork. Official Frank merchandise does not arrive often. Last year, he had an exclusive Black Friday sale for vinyl records, magazines, posters, and more. Preview Frank’s NorthSide merch below.

Prior to NorthSide, Frank Ocean cancelled several planned festival appearances. He pulled out of Primavera Sound, Sasquatch!, and Hangout all due to “production delays beyond his control.” He is still scheduled to perform at Parklife in London, Panorama in New York, and more. Toro Y Moi Announces New Album Boo Boo, Shares Video for New Song: Watch

Toro Y Moi has announced a new studio album. Boo Boo is out July 7 via Carpark. In a personal statement, Chaz Bear (who has officially changed his name from Chaz Bundick) explains that Travis Scott, Daft Punk, Frank Ocean, and Oneohtrix Point Never were among the artists who influenced him during the record’s creation. “I recognized that the common thread between these artists was their attention to a feeling of space, or lack thereof,” he writes. The announcement comes with a video for the album’s first single, “Girl Like You.” Check out the video and Boo Boo tracklist below.

Chaz Bear’s last Toro Y Moi studio album, What For?, was released in 2015. Since then, he’s released a free mixtape called Samantha and a live album/film, Live from Trona. Earlier this year, he and the Mattson 2 released the colllaborative LP Star Stuff.

Miley Cyrus has released a new track. It’s called “Inspired.” She previously performed the song on “Today.” Hear the new studio version below. “Inspired” follows Cyrus’ other new single “Malibu,” which she performed at the Billboard Music Awards. Last weekend, Cyrus was among the many artists to perform at Ariana Grande’s “One Love Manchester” benefit concert. She joined Pharrell on stage to perform his hit song “Happy.” She also played “Inspired.” Miley Cyrus’ most recent full-length is 2015’s Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz.

Fabric Nightclub Holding Contest to Name Office Cat

The legendary London nightclub Fabric—which reopened last year after a long legal battle—has announced a new contest with a deeply enticing prize. Over on the club’s Facebook, they’ve shared a photo of a lovable black cat with a message entreating their followers to name him. The club has announced that whoever picks the “most fitting moniker” for their new office cat will receive a “silver card,” granting them free entry (with a guest) into Fabric for life. The club will announce the winner this afternoon UK time, a representative tells Pitchfork, so start brainstorming!

Radiohead, Run the Jewels, Angel Olsen, More Win 2017 Libera Awards

Tonight was the Libera Awards, held by the American Association of Independent Music in New York City. Radiohead (and XL Recordings) took home the Best Live Act award and the fan-chosen Video of the Year. Run the Jewels won the category for Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album and DJ Shadow won video of the year for his collaboration with the duo, “Nobody Speak.” Angel Olsen’s My Woman beat out Bon Iver’s 22, A Million, Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool, and others for Album of The Year. Her label Jagjaguwar took Label of the Year, in the category for those with more than six employees. Other winners include Whitney, Bonobo, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings. The night featured performances from Nick Lowe, Ani DiFranco, Talib Kweli, Twin Peaks, and Nick Hakim.

Angel Olsen is performing at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival, with headliners LCD Soundsystem, Solange, and A Tribe Called Quest. See the full lineup here.

Pharrell has shared a new song, “Yellow Light.” It appears on the soundtrack for the upcoming animated film Despicable Me 3, the film franchise that previously featured his 2014 hit “Happy.” Listen to “Yellow Light” below on Apple Music. “Happy” earned Pharrell an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Cornelius Shares Video for New Song “いつか / どこか (Sometime/Someplace)”: Watch

Cornelius has shared the video for a new song, “いつか / どこか (Sometime/Someplace).” It’s the second song off his forthcoming full-length Mellow Waves, the first Cornelius album since 2006’s Sensuous. Check out the video below. Japanese producer Keigo Oyamada previously announced his return with the first single, “あなたがいるなら (If You’re Here),” and its corresponding video. Last year, he reissued his seminal Fantasma album from 1997, and performed the album in full on tour.
