T.I.’s Bodyguard Stabbed During Concert: Report

Last night, T.I. performed at the Venue in New Brunswick, Canada, as part of a tour behind his latest album Us or Else. During the show, his bodyguard was reportedly stabbed in the calf at least three times while guarding the merchandise table, according to TMZ. The bodyguard was reportedly taken to the hospital for minor injuries, and released later that night. According to the report, T.I. spoke with police. Pitchfork has reached out to T.I.’s representatives for more information and comment.

In a Facebook post today, the Venue wrote, “The incident with the artist’s entourage that took place happened in the closed section of the nightclub and the police have handled that issue as they see fit.” See the full statement here.

Watch Rihanna as Marion Crane on “Bates Motel,” Soundtracked by Radiohead

Last year, it was revealed at the annual San Diego Comic-Con that Rihanna had been tapped to appear in “Bates Motel,” the A&E television series that serves as a contemporary prequel to Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Psycho. Rihanna was cast as Marion Crane, a key character who is the victim in the famous shower scene in Psycho. Now, a new trailer from the show has surfaced. In it, Crane checks into the Bates Motel for the first time. Radiohead’s “Exit Music (For a Film)” off Ok Computer soundtracks the trailer. Check it out below.

Watch Big Sean Perform “Moves” With Senior Citizens on “Ellen”

Earlier today, Big Sean went on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to perform “Moves,” off his forthcoming album I Decided. He was joined by over a dozen dapper senior citizens, who surround Sean and dance as he raps. Near the end of the song, they make it rain with cash all over the set; watch it below. I Decided is out February 3.

Frank Ocean, Tegan and Sara, Blood Orange Up for GLAAD Awards

The GLAAD Media Awards, which honor media figures for “fair, accurate and inclusive representations” of LGBTQ communities, have announced their 2017 nominees. Frank Ocean, Tegan and Sara, Blood Orange, Lady Gaga, Sia, and Against Me! are among the 10 nominees for Outstanding Music Artist, a category that has doubled in size to reflect “growing inclusion in music,” Billboard reports. Also up for awards are Moonlight (Outstanding Film, Wide Release) and “Black Mirror’”s “San Junipero” (Outstanding Individual Episode, in a TV series without a regular LGBTQ character). Danny Brown and Paul White Team for New EP Accelerator

Danny Brown and Paul White have teamed up once again, this time for an EP, as Hot New Hip-Hop points out. Accelerator features two new songs, the title track and “Lion’s Den,” as well as an instrumental version of each. It’s coming on February 10—next Friday. As well as producing most of Atrocity Exhibition, White previously released the “Street Lights” single with Brown in 2013.

Beach House Announce Tour, New Rarities Compilation

Beach House are hitting the road, starting this March. The band have announced a number of headlining shows to go along with their festival dates, including previously announced appearances at Governors Ball in New York City and Ceremonia in Mexico City. In addition, Beach House are currently working on a compilation of B-sides and rarities. It’s set to come out in the first half of 2017, according to a press release. Real Estate Announce 2017 Tour

Real Estate have announced a new run of tour dates for 2017. The new tour kicks off on April 5 at Saturn in Birmingham, AL, and includes festivals gigs as well as headlining shows across North America. The European leg of the tour begins in June. Check out the full itinerary here. Frankie Cosmos will be joining them for select shows. Real Estate recently announced their fourth studio album, In Mind, out March 17 via Domino.

Grammys 2017: A Tribe Called Quest, Anderson .Paak, Dave Grohl Performing Together

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards have announced another all-star collaboration: A Tribe Called Quest, Anderson .Paak, and Dave Grohl will perform together at this year’s ceremony, broadcasting live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center at 8 p.m. Eastern on February 12 on CBS. Also announced today for this year's Grammys are collaborative performances from Daft Punk and the Weeknd, as well as Alicia Keys and Maren Morris. Previously announced performers include Adele, Bruno Mars, Metallica, John Legend, Carrie Underwood, and Keith Urban. The show will be hosted by James Corden.

Paak is a Best New Artist nominee this year, and also up for Best Urban Contemporary Album for Malibu. He also appeared on Tribe’s new album We got it from Here... Thank You 4 Your service.

Grammys 2017: Daft Punk Performing With the Weeknd

Daft Punk and the Weeknd will perform together at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, the Recording Academy announced today. Daft Punk never toured behind their last album, 2013’s Grammy-dominating Random Access Memories, so this will be Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’s first live performance since their appearance at the 2014 Grammys. This year’s Grammy ceremony will broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Staples Center at 8 p.m. Eastern on February 12 on CBS.

Daft Punk collaborated with the Weeknd on two tracks from his latest album Starboy: the title track and “I Feel It Coming.”Starboy was released after this year's Grammy deadline, so the Weeknd is only nominated as a contributor to Beyoncé's Lemonade. Daft Punk are not up for any awards this year.

At the 2014 ceremony, Daft Punk were joined by Pharrell, Stevie Wonder, and Nile Rodgers for their performance. (Current White House press secretary Sean Spicer was not impressed.)

A$AP Rocky, Yung Lean Producer James Laurence Dead at 27

James Laurence—one half of the cloud rap production duo Friendzone—has died, Fact reports. He was 27 years old. The cause of death has not been revealed. Pitchfork has reached out for comment.

Friendzone released their first mixtapes in 2010. The duo went on to produce A$AP Rocky’s “Fashion Killa” (from his major label debut LONG.LIVE.A$AP), as well as tracks for Main Attrakionz, Antwon, Yung Lean, and others. Their lone studio LP, DX, arrived in 2013. In addition to his production, Laurence made the artwork for Clams Casino’s 2011 Rainforest EP.

Artists including Clams, How to Dress Well, Ricky Eat Acid, and Ryan Hemsworth have paid tribute to Laurence.

Dave Chappelle Surprises Crowd at Chance the Rapper Event: Watch

Chance the Rapper periodically throws events in Chicago called “Open Mike”—opportunities for local teenagers to attend and showcase their talent. Occasionally, big guests show up (One time, Kanye West came through). Tonight, Dave Chappelle made an appearance. Watch footage of his set below. Earlier this month, both Chance and Chappelle attended Obama’s farewell party, where Chance gave out superlatives and awarded Chapelle “Strongest Handshake.”

Watch L.A. Protestors Chant Swet Shop Boys’ “T5”

In the wake of Donald Trump’s recent immigration ban, protestors have gathered at Los Angeles International Airport. Some of the people protesting began chanting a lyric from “T5” by Swet Shop Boys, the rap trio formed by Heems (formerly of Das Racist), Riz MC (aka Riz Ahmed, a rapper and star of HBO’s “The Night Of”), and producer Redinho. See clips from the protest below, in which the demonstrators chant the lyric, “Inshallah, mashallah/Hopefully no martial law.” The music video for “T5” was notably set in an airport. It featured the members of Swet Shop Boys being targeted and harassed by TSA and border control.

Ryan Adams Shares New Video for “Do You Still Love Me?”: Watch

Ryan Adams has released the new music video for his song “Do You Still Love Me?”, taken off his upcoming album Prisoner. The Noah Abrams-directed video features shots of Adams working in the studio, as well as footage captured during shows on his last tour. The famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado is prominently featured; watch it below. Adams recently announced new tour dates for 2017 and an insane box set for Prisoner that features a functioning play set stage. Prisoner is out February 17 via Pax Am/Blue Note.

Kanye, Drake, Bieber Skipping Grammys: Report

Kanye West, Drake, and Justin Bieber will not attend the 2017 Grammy Awards, according to TMZ. Although each artist received multiple nominations, they all reportedly agree that the Grammys do not represent young artists or black artists. TMZ reports that Bieber and Drake don’t find the awards “relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers.” A source told TMZ that West will sit out because “he’s received 21 Grammys, but when he was head-to-head against a white singer, he never won.” Pitchfork has reached out to each artist’s respective representatives, as well as Grammy reps.

West, Drake, and Bieber follow Frank Ocean’s lead in skipping the Grammys. Despite releasing both of his 2016 albums (Blonde and Endless) in time for eligibility, Frank chose not to submit them for consideration because he thinks “the infrastructure of the awarding system and the nomination system and screening system is dated.”

Bieber’s Purpose and Drake’s VIEWS are both up for Album of the Year (against records by Beyoncé, Adele, and Sturgill Simpson). Drake was nominated for eight total awards; West got five nods, and Bieber received four.

The 59th Annual Grammy Awards are broadcast from Los Angeles’ Staples Center at 8 p.m. Eastern on CBS.

Watch Dave Grohl React to His Teenage Band in New Documentary Outtake

Before Nirvana, before Foo Fighters, Dave Grohl was in the Northern Virginia-based hardcore punk band Scream. While Grohl predominately played drums for the outfit, he sang lead vocals on one song, “Gods Look Down,” from 1989. Now, in a newly-released outtake from the Foo Fighters HBO series “Sonic Highways,” Grohl revisits an alternate take of the song alongside producer Barrett Jones. “I sound like a girl,” Grohl comments at one point while listening. “I don’t think my balls had dropped yet.” Watch the clip below.

Watch Jonny Greenwood Rehearse There Will Be Blood in New 360 Video

The London Contemporary Orchestra are set to embark on a short tour where they perform Jonny Greenwood’s 2007 There Will Be Blood score. Greenwood will join them for the first show, which takes place tonight at London’s Royal Festival Hall. Ahead of the performance, the LCO have shared a new 360-degree behind-the-scenes video of their rehearsal. Greenwood practices the ondes Martenot in the clip. At one point, the conductor (Hugh Brunt, who worked on A Moon Shaped Pool) stops everyone to give some instructions. Watch it below. See the LCO’s tour dates here.

AEG Buys Half of Bowery Presents (But Not Bowery Ballroom or Mercury Lounge)

AEG, the massive entertainment company owned by controversial mogul Philip Anschutz, has acquired 50 percent of the Bowery Presents, the promotion company which runs numerous clubs in the New York City area and beyond, including Terminal 5, Music Hall of Williamsburg, and Rough Trade NYC, The New York Times reports. Bowery Ballroom, and Mercury Lounge are not a part of the deal, according to the Times, as they are still owned by Michael Swier, who co-founded the Bowery Presents but sold his stake in the company in 2010.

Bowery Presents joins Goldenvoice, the promoters behind Coachella, Panorama, and more, in AEG's massive portfolio, which also includes arenas, stadiums, theaters, festivals, and sports teams all over the world. AEG chairman Jay Marciano told the Times that Bowery Presents will book AEG's NYC-area venues, including the PlayStation Theater in Times Square.

Anschutz has long been known as a supporter of conservative political causes, but his monetary contributions to anti-LGBTQ organizations recently came under renewed scrutiny in the wake of the 2017 Coachella lineup announcement. Not long afterwards, it was revealed that Anschutz had given money to groups supporting anti-LGBTQ initiatives as recently as 2015, calling into question Anschutz and AEG's claims that reports of his donations were "fake news" and smear campaigns by competitors.

Sufjan on Refugees: “Christ Would Be Ashamed Of Us All”

Sufjan Stevens has shared a new statement addressed to America about immigrants and refugees. “There is really no such thing as an illegal immigrant, for we are all immigrants and refugees in a wildly changing world that is dominated by superfluous boundaries built by blood and war,” the note reads. “We are all complicit in the injustices against basic human rights and common decency, to put it mildly, which renders our own ‘inalienable rights’ as questionable or obsolete.”

Later on, Stevens says, “I charge you to eradicate barriers...help each other, and work on transforming your mind and behavior in the direction of love... Christ would be ashamed of us all. I love you and pray for you daily.” Read the full note below.
