Foxing Hit by Truck, Plan to Continue Tour

St. Louis rock band Foxing have been on tour with Balance and Composure. Last night, they were hit by a truck while on the side of a road in Northern California, the band wrote on Facebook (via Stereogum). Their tour van has been totaled, but all Foxing members survived and required “only one trip to the hospital.” Despite the accident, they plan to continue their tour.

They wrote that the members of Balance and Composure helped pick them up from the hospital, and have driven them to Portland, where they will play tonight at the Hawthorne Theatre. Foxing write that they are hoping to get a new van in Portland. Read Foxing’s full note below, and find their upcoming tour dates here.

Listen to Tim Kaine’s Favorite Songs Playlist: Replacements, Bowie, Lucy Dacus, More

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine has entered the playlist game. Earlier today, Hillary Clinton’s official Spotify account shared a playlist called “Tim’s Favorite Songs.” It features songs by (recent Nobel Prize acceptee) Bob Dylan, the Replacements (who Kaine has praised in the past), David Bowie, the Kinks, Richmond songwriter Lucy Dacus, and more. Many of these picks have already come to light—Kaine shouted out Alabama Shakes and Dacus in September—but other artists on the playlist include Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, the Who, and Tejano accordionist Flaco Jimenez. Other notable picks include “Can the Circle Be Unbroken” by the Carter Family and “Give Me A Clean Heart” by gospel singer Fred Hammond. Take a listen below.

Afghan Whigs Guitarist Diagnosed With Cancer, Band to Play Benefit Shows

The Afghan Whigs recently announced a 20th-anniversary reissue of their record Black Love (out November 25 via Rhino/Mute). Today, they’ve announced a pair of shows where they’ll perform the album in full. The new concerts come in support of the band’s guitarist Dave Rosser (also of the Gutter Twins and Twilight Singers), who has been diagnosed with inoperable colon cancer. In a statement, Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli said:

Dave Rosser has been my close friend and bandmate for over a decade now. By doing these shows for him we hope to ease any financial stress he may face as he pursues treatment to combat his illness. 100% of the proceeds for these shows will go to his medical care. I’m hopeful that folks will come out and show their support for Dave who will be performing with us.

Afghan Whigs’ benefit shows are at New Orleans’ Civic Theatre on December 10, and Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom on December 14. The New Orleans show features performances from Mark Lanegan, Ani DiFranco, and more. Yesterday, the Obamas celebrated their last Halloween at the White House. While handing out candy to children, President Obama encountered a pint-sized Prince, and he couldn’t help himself: He sang some “Purple Rain.” It was not, however, the Obamas’ only ’80s tribute moment of the day. Barack and Michelle also gave a restrained performance of the iconic Michael Jackson “Thriller” dance. Watch the Obamas take on Prince and MJ below.

Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins Announces New Album KOTA, Shares New Song “Range Rover Bitch”: Listen

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has announced a new solo album under his own name. It’s called KOTA and is out November 11. The “mini-LP” will feature Hawkins on lead vocals and “nearly every instrument,” according to a press release. Listen to the first single, “Range Rover Bitch,” below, and check out the tracklist and cover artwork as well. Foo Fighters’ last studio release was the Saint Cecilia EP in 2015.

Kanye’s Producer Credit on Drake’s Kid Cudi/Pusha T Diss Track Explained

The saga surrounding Drake’s new song “Two Birds, One Stone” has taken another turn. It was recently revealed that Kanye West is a composer, lyricist, and producer on the track. West’s appearance was curious because Drake seems to diss Pusha T and Kid Cudi (close West collaborators) on the song. Now, West’s “Two Birds” co-producer Noah “40” Shebib has explained West’s involvement to Genius: “I made it from some drums he had given me. Not quite the elaborate story the world is looking for.” Shebib could not explain West’s lyricist credit. Previously, the two worked together on VIEWS’ “U With Me?”

The beef between Cudi and Drake began in September when Cudi called him (and West) out on Twitter. West lashed out against Cudi, but later backed down. Following the initial incident, Drake dissed Cudi at a show, and later went on to diss him on “Two Birds.” Cudi has since responded to Drake on Twitter, once again.

Pusha T has remained relatively quiet since “Two Birds, One Stone” came out. Drake’s verse was already a response, however, to possible disses on Pusha’s new “H.G.T.V.” Push is currently president of West’s G.O.O.D. Music.

Danny Brown has shared the official lyric video for his Atrocity Exhibition posse cut “Really Doe,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, and Earl Sweatshirt. The grainy new video splices together performance videos of the individual rappers with what appears to be dashcam footage. Check out the new video below. Brown recently dropped the music video for another song off the album, “Pneumonia.”

Roger Waters, Thousands More Petition the Chemical Brothers to Cancel Tel Aviv Show

Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is among a list of artists who have signed a letter from Artists for Palestine UK urging the Chemical Brothers to cancel a show in Israel to show solidarity with a cultural boycott of the country. The electronic duo are scheduled to play Tel Aviv Convention Center on November 12. “Tel Aviv’s hipster vibe is a bubble on the surface of a very deep security state that drove out half the indigenous Palestinian population in 1948 and has no intention of letting their descendants back in,” the letter reads. “If you go to Tel Aviv, your presence will be used by the Israeli authorities to reassure their citizens that all’s right with the world and nobody really cares that the Palestinians are suffering... Please don’t go.” 

Other signees of the letter include playwright Caryl Churchill, poet Liz Lochhead, and actress Maxine Peake.

Additionally, over 7,000 people have signed a petition asking the Chemical Brothers to boycott Israel. “Israeli government officials have summed up how Israel exploits culture in order to cover up its severe violations of international law,” the petition says. “When international artists, such as the Chemical Brothers, perform at Israeli cultural venues and institutions, they help to create the false impression that Israel is a 'normal' country just like any other.”

Waters has been a longtime outspoken advocate for Palestinian rights. Earlier this year, he, David Gilmour, and Nick Mason “reunited” as Pink Floyd in support of a pro-Palestinian activist group.

Yesterday, WaterTower Music released a new EP featuring music from Season 1 of HBO’s new show “Westworld.” Among the music on the show are covers of notable songs performed by Ramin Djawadi (who also scores “Game of Thrones”). Korg Announces New Synthesizer With Aphex Twin Presets

Japanese musical instrument manufacturer Korg has announced a new monophonic synthesizer, the Monologue, featuring presets that were developed with the help of one Richard D. James, best known as Aphex Twin. The new synth notably features microtuning ability, allowing players to work outside of the equal-temperament scales that are usually used in popular music. According to Korg’s website, James came “onboard as advisor for the implementation and also to offer scales, sounds and sequences as part of the factory presets.” The Monologue will run $299 and is available to preorder now; it hits shelves on January 9.

Watch Moonlight’s Climactic “Classic Man” Scene

Moonlight is Barry Jenkins’ new three-part film about a boy named Chiron (played by Trevante Rhodes) coming of age in Miami. Since its October release, the film has been met with widespread critical acclaim. In one particular scene, Chiron (now an adult going by the nickname “Black”) has a pivotal conversation in car with an old friend named Kevin (André Holland). Playing in the background is a chopped-and-screwed version of Jidenna’s hit single “Classic Man.” Below, watch a clip from that scene.

Yesterday, Desiigner celebrated Halloween by sharing a new freestyle with Genius, in which he raps over “The Addams Family” theme song. The 30-second clip sees the Brooklyn rapper’s face covered in fake blood. Watch it below. Watch Pusha T’s New PSA For Marijuana Legalization

Pusha T stars in a new PSA promoting support for California’s Proposition 64 law, an initiative that would legalize recreational marijuana in the state for adults 21 and up. Medicinal marijuana is already legal in California, and has been since 1996. “Marijuana arrests are the engine driving the war on drugs. Its the number one reason people trying to re-enter their communities are sent back to prison,” Pusha says in the video. “I’m not a California voter, but I know when good legislation passes in the biggest state, other states follow. And that's an important step in ending mass incarceration across the country. If ending prohibition on marijuana reduces recidivism, then let’s do it.” Check out the full video below via Rolling Stone.

Watch the National’s Matt Berninger Discuss Hillary, Obama, Trump, More on “Tavis Smiley”

Recently, the National’s Matt Berninger was a guest on Tavis Smiley’s PBS show. They discussed the National’s recent activism in campaigning for Hillary Clinton, as well as the band’s 2012 efforts to help Barack Obama win re-election. They also spoke about Berninger’s anti-Donald Trump song with EL VY, “Are These My Jets,” which Berninger said “is mostly a cathartic thing.” Watch the full interview below.

Berninger recently gave an update about the next National album–their first since 2013. He said “it’s about marriage, and it’s about marriages falling apart.” He added, “My wife and I are writing the lyrics together about our own struggles and it’s difficult to write, but it’s saving my marriage.” During the interview with Smiley, Berninger reiterated that his wife aids him with his songwriting:

She’s very helpful at sort of helping me to find the soul of a song. Also, she knows when I’m full of [bleep] and she gets me focused on being honest, you know. Emotionally honest and don’t posture in songs. There’s enough of that, you know. She doesn’t want me to waste a song on style or posturing, so she’s got very high standards.

Look Inside David Bowie Art Display Ahead of Auction: Video

David Bowie’s personal art collection is being auctioned by Sotheby’s to raise an expected $13.2 million for his family, it was revealed in July. Today, the collection goes on display at Sotheby’s, in London, where they’ll be sold on November 10 and 11. The BBC has shared footage from inside the show, including interviews with his art-world acquaintances, which you can watch below. The set of 267 works features pieces by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Frank Auerbach, Marcel Duchamp, Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland, Damien Hirst, and more. The Basquiat, “Air Power,” is the most valuable in the set, expected to sell for between $2.5-3.5 million.
