Rick Ross Indicted for Alleged Pistol-Whipping of Groundskeeper, Pleads Self-Defense

Rick Ross has been indicted in a Georgia court for allegedly attacking a groundskeeper at his home last summer, as TMZ reports. However, Ross has argued that he was acting in self-defense. According to court documents obtained by Pitchfork, last Wednesday, a Fayette County grand jury formally indicted and charged Ross on nine counts including kidnapping, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. (Ross' bodyguard, Nadrian James, was also indicted on all nine counts.) On Monday, Ross' lawyers filed a motion contending he should be immune from prosecution due to the state's law on self-defense.

To indict someone is to formally charge that person with a crime. It happens when a grand jury decides there is enough evidence for the charge.

In June 2015, Ross was arrested for allegedly pistol-whipping a man working at one of his homes and preventing him from leaving. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the initial warrants said Ross chipped the man's teeth with a gun and hurt the man's jaw so severely he was "restricted to soft foods and liquid diet." The kidnapping charges reportedly relate to the alleged victim being "questioned under duress and forced to answer questions at gunpoint.”

He was subsequently released on bond. According to The AJC, if Ross violates the terms of his bond, he must give up ownership of his mansion, previously owned by boxer Evander Holyfield.

Mobb Deep's Prodigy Settles Lawsuit by Agreeing to Tweet About It

Mobb Deep's Prodigy Settles Lawsuit by Agreeing to Tweet About It

Photo by Johnny Nunez / Getty Images

In November, Prodigy of Mobb Deep filed a lawsuit against Universal Music Publishing Group. According to Billboard, the complaint alleged that the company had been collecting fees for Prodigy's solo work as a featured artist and in collaborative projects for almost 20 years without his approval. The suit demanded at least $57,000 for copyright infringement and other alleged violations. Now, Prodigy has ended the dispute in an unusually public way.

Prodigy, whose legal name is Albert Johnson, filed a settlement agreement yesterday, court records show. TMZ reports that UMPG agreed to pay him more than $150,000 on the condition that Prodigy tweet the following sentences: "My dispute with UMPG was all a misunderstanding. Thankful that we resolved it quickly and happy to be continuing my long-standing relationship with UMPG."

Earlier today, Prodigy tweeted those exact words:

Spokespeople for Prodigy and UPMG declined to comment on the matter to Pitchfork.

Prodigy's lawyer confirmed the settlement to Pitchfork but declined to comment on the dollar amount.

Lil B Apologizes for Dissing the Weeknd

Lil B Apologizes for Dissing the Weeknd

Weekend photo by Lamar Taylor; Lil B photo via Instagram

Last November, Lil B shared a song called "4 Tha Record." The track saw him dissing the Weeknd with the lines "Call me Lil Bars with the XO Bars/ Saying fuck the Weeknd, I can't sing that soft," and "A lot of suckas fake, so I can't respect it/ Fuck the Weeknd, put that on record." (Later, the song appeared on his most recent mixtape, Thugged Out Pissed Off.)

The Based God has taken back those harsh words in a new interview with ILY Mag, as XXL points out. In the interview, he said his sentiments were fueled in part by the Weeknd's decision to unfollow him on Twitter. "I definitely want to apologize about what I said about The Weeknd, and I want him to know that," he said.

Here are his full remarks:

I want to give a shout out to The Weeknd. I want to apologize and take back saying, “Fuck The Weeknd.” I said it for no reason and thought about why back when I said it. It’s because he unfollowed me on Twitter and I felt weird about that, and I thought back to that moment and said, “Why’d I do that?” That’s not right. The Weeknd is a good guy—I talked to him before everything really blew up, and he told me how he felt. I definitely want to apologize about what I said about The Weeknd, and I want him to know that.

I’m not scared to admit if I’m wrong, after I analyze it. If I feel that I’m wrong or there’s somebody that I love and trust that says that I’m wrong, I can accept that and bring that to a discussion. I’m not afraid to learn.

Lil B's mea culpa came at the end of the interview, in which he also discussed his speaking arrangements at various universities, Lil WayneChance the Rapper, and the creation of his well-known track "I Love You," among other topics.

Abel Tesfaye has yet to respond.

M83 New Album Junk Announced, Listen to New Single "Do It, Try It"

M83 New Album Junk Announced, Listen to New Single "Do It, Try It"

M83's new album Junk will be released April 8 via Mute. "Do It, Try It," the first single from the follow-up to 2011's breakthrough Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, can be heard below, after premiering on Annie Mac's BBC Radio 1 show. Also below, find the amazing album art and single art, as well as the tracklist. Beck and Susanne Sundfør are among the guests on the album. "I want to show different sides of me on this album," Anthony Gonzalez said in a press release. "I want to come back with something more intimate, yet somehow with…less me!" He added, "All my albums have layers of eclecticism to them, but with this album I wanted to take that even further."

In a press release, Gonzalez reflected on the album title:

Anything we create today is going to end up being space junk at one point anyway, and I find it really fascinating and scary at the same time - beautiful too in a way. I have this image of pieces of humanity floating in space, lost forever. It also means that nowadays everything goes so fast and everybody is kind of throwing away art in a certain manner. People will listen to an album for instance and just pick a track they like to put on a playlist. They're not going to take the time to listen to an album anymore because they have to jump on the next thing.

M83 is heading out on tour in support of the album this spring, with a new, crowd-sourced keyboardist. Find the dates below as well.

Guns N' Roses Reunion Won't Include Izzy Stradlin

Guns N' Roses Reunion Won't Include Izzy Stradlin

Photo by Shinko Music / Getty Images

Earlier this year, Guns N' Roses announced a partial reunion of the band's "classic" lineup featuring singer Axl Rose, guitarist Slash, and bassist Duff McKagan. Today, guitarist Izzy Stradlin, who co-founded the band with Rose in 1985, confirmed to Rolling Stone that he will not be participating in the reunion. "At this point in time, I will not be playing at any of the April 2016 GNR shows," he wrote in an e-mail. "I've also not been in the studio recording or writing with any of the others recently. There is so much speculation, but so very little info, [that] I thought I should reach out."

Stradlin also confirmed to Rolling Stone that he's behind a Twitter account that launched at the end of February.

Though he left Guns N' Roses in 1991, Stradlin has has performed with the band a few times over the years. In 2012, he performed at a handful of shows following GNR's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Guns N' Roses are headlining Coachella this year. They've also announced a handful of other dates, with a full stadium tour potentially in the works.

Axl Rose has been the only consistent member of the band since they started in 1985. A different lineup has toured on-and-off since the early aughts, but their official output has been slim. In 2008, the band released the long-gestating Chinese Democracy

Here's a statement from Harrington about the process of making the record:

This record is the result of improvising with different combinations of people, and then processing and re-sculpting those improvisations—isolating passages, turning them into something new, overdubbing layers of myself, maybe taking something from another piece and superimposing it out of its original context. But each track is always me interacting with other people, sometimes just one or two… sometimes ten.  There was flute, vibes, organ, Fender Rhodes, guitar, bass, two drummers, percussion, sax…just full-on, over-blown energy. I took all that and treated it as raw material in the mixing stage… but when you have ten people in a room, you can only edit so much. Everything is in every microphone anyway—it’s all connected, so it’s about turning it into whatever it wants to be.

The Lonely Island Detail New Movie Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

The Lonely Island Detail New Movie Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

Photo via the Lonely Island's Instagram

Last year, The Lonely Island (the comedy trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone) announced they were working on a feature film. That movie now has a title. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping will be in theaters from June 3, through Universal Pictures. It's produced by Judd Apatow, and the trio's co-stars include Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows, and Maya Rudolph. Last night, Samberg unveiled the poster and chatted about the movie on "Jimmy Kimmel Live." Watch video below, and scroll down more clips of Samberg on "Kimmel."

According to a press release, Popstar "goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all."

Chaffer and Taccone directed the film, which was written and co-produced by the full trio. Along with Apatow, Rodney Rothman also co-produced.

"We pitched other names to the studio," Samberg told Kimmel. "I pitched them 'Gremlins 3' and they were like, 'No.' So I was like, 'Alright: Popstar: Never Stop Stopping!'"
