Yesterday, M.I.A. shared the lyrics for “Go Off,” a new song with Skrillex that’s due this Friday. Today, in advance of her imminent new album, she shared a text on her website by the writer Sinthujan Varatharajah, addressing the treatment of asylum seekers around the world. (Earlier this year, Varatharajah wrote a piece on the politics of M.I.A.’s “Borders” video.) The text, titled “M.I.A. // A.I.M.,” concludes with confirmation of the new single release—“GO OFF First single on the 15.7.16”—as well as a possible title and release date for the new record: “AIM 9/9.” Read the post on M.I.A.’s website, and below, check out the new artwork that heads up the page and has recently appeared on her Twitter account.
