Twin Shadow Performs New Song "Locked and Loaded"

Twin Shadow Performs New Song "Locked and Loaded"

Twin Shadow's George Lewis Jr. was recently a musical guest on a very strange episode of the Comedy Bang! Bang! podcast called Comedy Bing Bong, which included an interview with mental illness "spokesperson" Howard Amethyst. In between chatting about neurosis, milkshake movies, and sex role-playing, the Twin Shadow frontman played some seemingly-unrelated music, including a song called "Locked and Loaded". Listen to it above around the 1:01:45 mark.

George Lewis Jr.'s interview starts around 6:50. In it, he mentions the new Twin Shadow album will be due out in October, and gets pressured into uncomfortably discussing his ideal sexual partner ("It depends on the country," he laughs.) He also plays his latest single "To The Top" at 1:36:44.

Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood Announces World Premiere of New Piece "Water"

Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood Announces World Premiere of New Piece "Water"

In December, we wrote that Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood had collaborated with the Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) on a new piece called "Water". Now, it's been announced that the piece will debut this fall when the ACO tours Europe and Australia.

The world premiere will take place place on October 2 in Dublin. Following that, it will be performed in London on October 4, and Birmingham on October 5. It will be played alongside material from Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Haydn. After the ACO's European tour, it will be performed in Melbourne on October 26.

"Water" is a work for strings, piano, and the South Asian instrument the tambura.

In a press release, Greenwood said, “I loved every second of being around these players. They were enthusiastic, patient, energetic and enormously musical. Just overhearing them rehearse a Shostakovich string quartet really floored me: nothing beats being in a small room with a bunch of players like this. And they really do go surfing afterwards!"

He added, "I wrote and rehearsed about twice as much music as there is in the final piece. It's a great feeling being able to edit things down like that. And as often as the workshops showed up ideas as not working, they also rescued promising half-ideas. The whole experience was very inspiring."

ACO artistic director Richard Tognetti said that Greenwood's publisher approached the orchestra with the idea of collaboration. "He obviously loves music so much," Tognetti said of Greenwood. "I believe he’s the first celebrated pop musician who has been able to straddle the world of classical music. In terms of the cross-fertilisation of ideas, it’s a great time to be a musician."

There are currently no plans to record the performances, which means international fans should scoop up a ticket. All the performance details can be found at the ACO's website.

Below, you can watch a video in which Tognetti discusses working with Greenwood. His comments begin just before the two minute mark.

Prank Photo of Lily Allen In Handcuffs Warrants Police Investigation

Prank Photo of Lily Allen In Handcuffs Warrants Police Investigation

Australian police are investigating a prank photo of Lily Allen in handcuffs that was reportedly taken while Allen was touring in Australia, Billboard reports. According to the story, Allen asked officers who were escorting her through the Gold Coast Airport in Queensland, Australia to cuff her while she posed on her knees for a photograph.

The image was later uploaded to her instagram and tweeted, but when Allen arrived to perform at Splendour in the Grass festival in Australia's North Byron Parklands, she was confronted by police. The photo has since been removed from her Instagram.

A spokesperson to the Australian Federal Police told the New Zealand Herald :

"At her request members involved placed open handcuffs for a photo opportunity. It appears the members involved were caught in the moment and standard protocol were breached. It is subject to internal processes."

No further comments have been made at this time.

Nicki Minaj and Aimee Mann Voice Giant Gem Warriors in Cartoon Network's "Steven Universe"

"Steven Universe" is an animated Cartoon Network show in which a group of female warriors wield magic that comes from gemstones. Sometimes, the warriors come together to create gem fusions, which are giant, more powerful warriors. It's a pretty odd show. Anyway, a clip has surfaced that features the gem fusions Opal, voiced by Aimee Mann, and Sugilite, voiced by Nicki Minaj. Watch below (via Stereogum).

Beck has shared a series of teasers for his forthcoming video for "Heart Is A Drum", the latest from his recent album Morning Phase . Action Bronson Cooks "White Trash Bruschetta" in New Episode of His Food Show "Fuck, That's Delicious"

Action Bronson has released a new episode of "Fuck, That's Delicious", his food show in which he probably racks up an unconscionable bill for heartburn medicine.

This episode finds him in London, where he tours Chinatown and hits up a savory kebab restaurant. ("It's like... Barry Bonds fucking filling, it's ridiculous," he says of one particularly savory BBQ pork bun.) He also shows how to make "white trash bruschetta," and at one point attempts to purchase chicken from a restaurant despite not having any money or a shirt. Would you believe that he is unsuccessful at this?

Mac DeMarco and Tyler, The Creator Perform Raunchy, Uncomfortable Song About Seducing a Grandmother in New Episode of Loiter Squad

Last night Odd Future released a new episode of their skit-based Adult Swim show, Loiter Squad . One of the skits, "Granny, Tyler, More" features Mac DeMarco soundtracking Tyler's incredibly uncomfortable and possibly NSFW daydream about getting it on with a granny.

There's definitely some uncomfortable touching, and lots of awkward closeups of Mac's face juxtaposed with Tyler's groin-- to say nothing of the lyrics. If you're feeling brave, go watch it now over at Adult Swim.

As previously reported, DeMarco said the video was "probably extremely offensive".

Charlie Haden, Iconic American Jazz Bassist, Has Died

Charlie Haden, Iconic American Jazz Bassist, Has Died

Photo via Charlie Haden Music

Charlie Haden, bass player and American jazz icon best known for his work with Ornette Coleman and Keith Jarrett as well as his distinguished solo career, has died at his home in Los Angeles, according to his label ECM. He was 76.

Haden was born on August 6, 1937 in Shenandoah, Iowa to a family of country-western musicians who broadcast their own radio program in town. Haden sang with his family until contracting Polio at the age of 15-- a development that ended his singing career and lead him to pursue music in other forms.

By the 1960's, he would be known as a founding father of free jazz, playing as a sideman with saxophonist Ornette Coleman and pianist Keith Jarrett, and as a leader of the Liberation Music Orchestra, who along with pianist-composer Carla Bley put out the iconic protest album, Liberation Music Orchestra, in 1969.

Throughout the 70's and 80's, Haden joined Don Cherry, Dewey Redman, and Ed Blackwell to form Old and New Dreams, a distinguished quartet best known for their eponymous 1979 release.

In the mid-80's, Haden helped found a university jazz education program at the California Institute of the Arts, working as an activist to further the cause of jazz. In 1986, he inaugurated another group called Quartet West alongside saxophonist Ernie Watts, pianist-arranger Alan Broadbent and drummer Larance Marable. The group would become known for their bop-oriented 1940's noir aesthetic and continued to release music off and on (when Haden wasn't occupied with other side collaborations) until 2011, when they appeared on ECM's Live At Birdland.

Haden was a three-time Grammy winner: 1997's “Beyond the Missouri Sky,” his collaboration with guitarist Pat Metheny, was named Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, and two of his sessions with Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba-- 2001's Nocturne and 2004's Land of the Sun-- were named Best Latin Jazz Album.

Haden was the subject of Reto Caduff’s 2009 documentary Rambling Boy , a documentary about Haden's life and work. He received the National Endowment for the Arts’ Jazz Masters Award in early 2012.

Charlie Haden is survived by his wife of 30 years, Ruth Cameron, as well as his children Josh Haden, Tanya Haden, Rachel Haden and Petra Haden.

Google Acquires Songza

Google Acquires Songza

Billboard reports that Google has reached a deal to acquire the music streaming site Songza, an agreement that, as previously reported by New York Post , has been in the works since at least the beginning of June. Around that time, it was rumored Google had offered Songza $15 million in the deal, although the financial terms of the agreement have not yet been disclosed.Billboard reports that Google has plans to incorporate Songza's human-curated playlists into the search company's Google Play Music All Access subscription service (Google's service currently also has playlists, largely created by algorithms). Songza also may be integrated into Google and YouTube's forthcoming, controversial streaming service.

“Over the coming months, we’ll explore ways to bring what you love about Songza to Google Play Music,” Google said in a statement. “We'll also look for opportunities to bring their great work to the music experience on YouTube and other Google products.”
